Rory Byrne popped up in Ferrari's pit at Malaysia this year. He also appeared at Ferrari's pit in Monza. Byrne has been at Ferrari officially as a consultant, but not with the F1 team. YallaF1 is reporting here that Rory is already part of the F1 design team for the F2012. Could just be a rumour, but, it would add a bit of spice to next year if its true.

Design guru Rory Byrne is back at Ferrari

Sep.27 (GMM) Rory Byrne is making a return to Formula 1 with Ferrari, according to two authoritative figures, including former team manager Joan Villadelprat, who writes a column in the Spanish newspaper El Pais.

“Rory Byrne, the brain behind the great Michael Schumacher era, has decided to return to work with Ferrari’s new (technical) boss Pat Fry,” he wrote.

South African designer Byrne handed over his role to the now-ousted Aldo Costa in 2006, staying as a consultant in recent years before retiring completely.

AS newspaper correspondent Manuel Franco also reported the news about Byrne this week, admitting that Ferrari at present is “determined to deny it”.

“Officially the 2012 car has been designed by Nicholas Tombazis, but Byrne has been there,” Franco insisted.

Ferrari coffers are desperate for a saviour it would seem.
It will take more than one man, one piece of the puzzle to topple RedBull.

I think we will see the rory scapegoat rumors until his deathbed

Two teams, the classic pincer attack. Red Bull had held both off mighty fine so far.

Ahhh, but for how much longer? 2012 will reveal....

No F1 car is designed by one person, it's always a team. It's both possible and very normal that Tombazis is the true and proper chief designer and that Byrne is on the team. Given that Byrne has been more on the periphery of the car design for a while, I would think it a bad idea if he was suddenly made chief designer. And hence I don't think there's anything to be "denied", and I wonder if these "denials" are denials of claims that Byrne has had a role other than the role that he has. And what is this "Officially the 2012 car has been designed by Nicholas Tombazis"? He's the chief designer, but there is absolutely nothing wrong, unusual, or newsworthy if other Ferrari employees have contributed to the design of the car.

The desperation is strong in this team.

It's funny how Ferrari have openly said they 'stopped' developments and are fully focused on next year, when the other two top teams are not really caring and continuing to develop this years' car saying all knowledge and technical knowhow is fully transferable for 2012.

Ferrari probably have many knife wielding Italians lining up at Maranello already, and are keen to defuse the growing anger by mentioning nonsense like "next years car will be the killer"..."Rory and his Pro-Engineer software is back"....what's next..."MIchael may be coming back to Ferrari"? LOL

Aye, that's what they all say...

Remember at the start of this season, when Ferrari reckoned they were going to be Red Bull's main challenger?

Yeah but at least its not as annoying as McLarens "To have a great platform to build on during the season is key"....by the time they build on it, the Championships are lost. :hehe:

The latest joke is Buttons "Don't underestimate McLaren in Suzuka"....both Lewis and Jenson have been taking turns saying this. For what? Redbull are definitely not underestimating them the way they're spanking their ar*es every weekend....maybe someone should say "Please underestimate us this time, please please."

Unfortunately, getting good too late has been the team's achilles heel the past few seasons. :irked:

Ferrari's car this year was far too conservative. Their car next year is meant to be a lot more daring in design so it sounds like they are pretty much starting from scratch. Red Bull and McLaren saying that all knowledge and technical knowhow is fully transferable for 2012 makes sense seeing as their cars are setting the pace and there are no rule changes for 2012.

Long may Ferrari's current form continue though. :D

Why are people complaining about this? The guys got a great record, why not try to bring in the best staff possible? Ferrari don't actually operate based on love and passion you know. It also doesn't work both ways, either they had a poor season, in which sense they'll be justified in changing things around, or they had a good one in which case there's no need to bring him back.

Redbull pay Newey, 6 million a year isn't it? Suppose you could talk about them buying staff or being desperate or something. All the teams are desperate to win, and pay a shitload of money to do so.

Or do a lot of posters here actually want other teams to just give up?

Of course not. Just Ferrari.

I can live with that but would be just as happy with Ferrari and McLaren shuffling off. :D
