The baby Jesus reputedly slept in a Manager.

Managers who have been drivers would probably be better to have than a regular manager as they have been through it all before so can give the benefit of their experience.

Don't know if it's already been discussed, but Lewis Hamilton's father Anthony has recently stated that Lewis needs more attention from his management team, who were absent from the Singapore Grand Prix.

Most drivers' managers are usually around them all the time during a Grand Prix event.

Do we think that Lewis' management need to do more to keep his spirits and confidence up?

No, he's an adult. He should be able to fend for himself.

To get his confidence up he needs to finish races in a good position and to do that he'll have to stop getting involved in skirmishes that screw his race.

I don't see the point in managers in singular sports (e.g. not a team sport); I don't need someone to manage my life, so I don't see why a driver needs someone to manage theirs, their professional time is managed by their team, corporate events, transport is provided by the team, all they really have to do is talk, walk and drive. It seems even stranger for Lewis to have an entertainment management company!

+1

It seems like a total waste of money.

Well lewis has a useless one. Dont know why he botherd signing them. Brundle and now his dad have both said he isnt getting the right support- thats very obvious. He should have stuck with his dad, his dad knew F1 and would always put lewis' interests first. Well Paul Di Resta has him now. Wise boy!

I would say they are. Someone needs to be doing the money negotiations about appearances, running to meetings during silly season, working with the team PR and management folks. Booking tickets and hotels for appearances/races (although some of this could be handled by the team folks).

Even down to reminding the person that they need to make sure to mention such and such in the interviews.

There is a bunch of stuff you wouldn't think about that a manager would be needed for. Being an F1 driver is big business.

With regards to the motivation and wellness though, I thought that was what their trainers were for.

I dunno, I think they do serve a purpose. But they should be there to allow the drivers to concentrate on driving, not cause a distraction from it by getting too involved in politics. I think the best managers are probably the ones you never hear about/see and keep out of the drama.

Speaking of Managers. Petrov's manager, the angry schoolmarm is ever present. She is like Waldo showing up all over the place if you look hard enough. I think maybe the BBC cameramen have a crush on her.

Race car drivers are alot different now than they where 20-30-40 years ago.. More celebrity status and fame. Media entertainment loves pushing people around. And all the side endorsements they get.. Remember lewis doing some reebox commercials a few years ago.

It seems like the driver manager just seems to help keep them in the right frame of mind, and secure contracts.

By the looks of things Anthony is helping Di Resta to just keep focussed on his racing. By the looks of things Hamilton needs that support as well.
