On topic: why on Earth are we arguing about Lewis Hamilton's 'mistake'; this is what is most frustrating about modern F1 for me; stewards are too quick to punish drivers for what would have been considered racing incidents not so long ago. You do have to admit that Lewis does seem to get penalised more frequently than other drivers for similar offences.

Something that was discussed on the commentary was the attitude of the drivers in the stewards office along with the drivers past behaviour, I suppose much like the police do if they catch you doing something you shouldn't be doing.

One of the commentators was wondering (to use extremes in attitude) if a driver going in acting like a spoilt sulking petulant child would attract more or is more likely to attract a penalty than someone who goes into the stewards office, cap in hand, minding their p's and q's Guvn'r, owning up straight away and the incident is a one off or a rarity.

I'm not sure about the attitude part but I'm sure the stewards take into account the drivers on-track behaviour to date.

In fairness Lewis has cleaned up his act off track and if the stewards are punishing him for previous attitude/indiscretions then that could be classed as profiling and should not be allowed; every incident should be investigated on individual case merit; was the Lewis/Felipe incident really any worse than Rosberg/Perez incident in the same race?

If that's the case, then Maldonado is one lucky guy to still be in the sport, yes?

While I don't disagree, I'll play devil's advocate here.

In the 1950s and 1960s, watching a car plow into a concrete barrier at 195 or having a driver burn alive was as common as passing at turkey was this year.

The apple does not fall far from the tree:

Hamilton Snr points finger at son’s management

Hamilton can't learn from his mistakes (and in doing so, get past them) until he concedes they are his mistakes. The Mod Scot agrees:

"I am a bit confused because he certainly knows how to drive and has a very large amount of natural talent,..." "...But if he is going to be a great driver he cannot have serial incidents. And none of the great drivers ever drove in that fashion." "He has all the skills but somehow or other, he jumps out of gear mentally...."

Perhaps Niki Lauda said it best:

„Ich verstehe nicht, warum ein Mann mit dem Talent von Hamilton immer wieder so blöd ist.“

You might not think it but I am a Hamilton fan. Any talent that enormous has to be applauded. I just hate to see such potential being undone by hubris.

 No idea. He maybe says the rights things to the stewards.

Lauda's been mentioned. Take cover. :tank:

Here's the English version:

I don’t understand how a guy with Hamilton’s talent can be always so stupid.

He's makes a good point. Why is Hamilton involved in so many incidents?

„Ich verstehe nicht, warum ein Mann mit dem Talent von Hamilton immer wieder so blöd ist.“

A bit harsh :D

I don't think it's that Hamilton is stupid; this is how racing used to be; how many times did Schumacher and Hill come together in a similar fashion during the 1994/95 seasons? F1 has changed; and Hamilton is an old school driver, obviously he needs to change to suit modern F1, the question is; can he change to suit H&S F1?
F1 is a dangerous sport; hence why these drivers earn mega $$$; military personnel get paid much less to risk their lives on a daily basis, stop with the H&S Formula 1 :bs:

I don't personally speak German, but babelfish gives me "I do not understand, why a man with the talent of Hamilton is so dumb again and again."

As I've said before, personally I think it's frustration. He was incredibly impressive as a rookie, a proper rookie not a Villeneuve rookie, challenging for the championship, and winning it soon after. I think he expected to go on to become one of, if not the, greatest drivers ever. But, he's not. And now even with him being in his mid 20s, he's being eclipsed by a younger driver. Not what I expect he expected after the first two years.

Even if it sounds a bit like armchair psychology, there could be some truth to this.

Lewis Hamilton drives for McLaren. They WILL win another title before long. He needn't get depressed. And we should all stop getting flustered about him. Everything moves along in ups and downs.
