CERN claims faster-than-light particle measured
(AP) GENEVA — A fundamental pillar of physics — that nothing can go faster than the speed of light — appears to be smashed by an oddball subatomic particle that has apparently made a giant end run around Albert Einstein's theories.

Scientists at the world's largest physics lab said Thursday they have clocked neutrinos traveling faster than light. That's something that according to Einstein's 1905 special theory of relativity — the famous E (equals) mc2 equation — just doesn't happen.

"The feeling that most people have is this can't be right, this can't be real," said James Gillies, a spokesman for the European Organization for Nuclear Research, or CERN, outside the Swiss city of Geneva.

Cold fusion and such...

You really have a thing against the Swiss. :hehe:

Well, it needs to be verified first.

Anyway, assuming this is true, "wrong" isn't exactly the correct term. "Incomplete" would be more accurate.

Science...woop! Growing up, I always argued with my scientist dad that something would be faster than the speed of light one of these days, he stuck to his old-guns, old school style. I found out about this yesterday, and immediately sent off an email informing dad of the new data. This was his reply:

Hi Lisa= what a turn up, I shall have to change my physics if it is endorsed !! Thanks so much for sending the article to me . Love Papa xxxxxxx

Translation: you are wrong, I know my s*** and you don't, love you!

If this is correct it's going to change a few theories. Given the equipment available and other discoveries since Einstein it is possible that some theories that have stood for years may need altering.

I remember being told that to manage time travel you'd need to go faster than the speed of light but in doing so you'd disintergrate (assuming you survived getting near the speed of light which you wouldn't).

Gonna get me a DeLorian before the prices go sky high. :hehe:

going forward in time is a piece of cake... it's going back that's tricky.

Yeah I often stumble on a worm hole or bend the space time continuum :hehe:

Picard once said that everything is impossible until its not..... It made DATA think about it for a minute..

I'm sure theres a phrase or name for this such as Occams Razor or Schrödinger's cat.

My point is, if you can think it, it can be done, no matter how outragious.

Nah, just look at this retard - she won't ever win the Nobel prize in physics:
