Hopefully Mercedes will still have the courage to keep supplying McLaren with their engines, despite the knowledge that they're powering a team that is almost always going to beat them :thumbup::wink:

Thats the worry aint it!

If Mclaren hadnt decided to make their own road car, Mercedes and Renault and in a very mad world Ferrari would supply them engines, but now they want to play that game the politics kick in and if their road cars challnege the other car makers, They wont want to have a rivals engine.

Check out McLarens car first part of 2010. The Mercedes logo was black outline like the other sponsors when in previous years when Merc owned the team the Logo had fine detail. Now it took a few races before it reverted back to the detailed version and it wasn't because McLaren thought it looked pretty. Mercedes insisted on this after it became apparent McLaren were the faster team.
Mercedes have their presence felt whether its a McLaren or a ex Brawn ex Honda ex BAR etc now Mercedes on the podium.

It'll be interesting to see how long their works team actually lasts. I have my doubts.

For me the biggest question about Merc is how long will they stay in F1 as a constructor. The lack of success is going to be annoying the bejesus out of the suits who'll be sitting wondering why they spent their cash on an F1 team! I think their commitment as an engine supplier is safe as long as their is a demand. The Merc engines are one of the best to have so assuming the current engine quality continues a demand will always be there.

Merc GP's problem is their cars start the year way off and slowly creep up and trouble the top 3 teams occasionally during the races later in the season. It's worth having a look at some of the detailing on the Merc and compare it to the likes of Ferrari, Red Bull and McLaren. Some parts just look really shoddy and almost bodged together!

Well they're just your typical car-manufacturer team. Only Ferrari sets itself apart these days from the other true car-manufacturers as a fully committed F1 team.

It's clear to see, that if Merc don't start hitting the heights they want within the next few seasons, then they'll go the same way as BMW, Toyota, Honda and all those other failed teams whose real passion lay in making road-cars and who couldn't cope with the realities of F1 stopping them from gaining instant and continued success.

If the passion, commitment and understanding is not there from the big-wigs above, then the only door open to the team is the exit.

Funnily enough there was a rumour a couple weeks ago about Toyota returning to F1 but that one seems to have gone quiet now. Given their spending and lack of success previously I doubt Toyota will return in the near future.

I can't see BMW returning in the near future given the way they left pretty sharpish.

However, it'll be interesting to see how the new engine reg's pan out. That may attract more engine manufacturers. Then there is the economy to consider - I heard today that it looks like this is going to be a double dip recession. That'll be a major deciding factor with the company brass I think.
