My signature includes a list of drivers that I've enjoyed watching through my time following F1, so I'll just pick a couple of them. What I won't do is add a further list of drivers that I don't support / dislike. We only see a small snippet of the true overall picture in F1. We don't see private team meetings, discussions with suppliers, talks with sponsors, contract negotiations. We don't see the full telemetry and don't see the true skills of individual engineers and mechanics over and above the most prominant of figures. We don't know the full lives of ANY of the drivers and as such I don't feel ANY of us are in a position to judge that we actively dislike a driver. Not actively support is one thing, but actively dislike / disrespect is something else. So with that said:

Niki Lauda: A fantastic talent. Even when he came back with McLaren and it was obvious that some of his out and out speed had not fully returned, he was so tactically aware with such great racecraft that he could still win. I have massive respect for Alain Prost, and he will be another of my picks, but something many people often forget is that Lauda is the one man that actually beat Prost at his own game. The 1984 championship was a classic nip and tuck battle between the two, but unlike Senna / Prost where the dynamic was completely different, at this stage in their careers Prost and Lauda were VERY similar in their approaches to racing. A true great in the sport.

Alain Prost: One of the greatest 'intelligent' racers in history. Could put together wins in all types of cars - the McLaren when it was the bast car on the grid, but also the Ferrari when it wasn't. He was blisteringly fast when he had to be, but criminally this is often overlooked because of his (true) reputation for being more of a strategist. The reality is that in combination with this strategical competence he was also faster on pure pace than 95% of those he raced against. I've continued to follow his career post-F1, and watched regularly every single race that has been televised in the Trophee Andros for the past 5 years, where even in his mid-50's now he's still faster than every single competitor with the exception of Jean Philippe Dayraut, whom he can still often beat regardless.

Ayrton Senna: See - it IS possible to support rivals!! In my opinion the most naturally skilled racer I have ever watched. Also in my opinion possibly the most hardened negotiater and mentally tough people I've known of in or out of F1.

Alex Zanardi: Never got the breaks in F1 he deserved. Was never going to go anywhere with Lotus at the stage they were at, then when he came back to Williams, not only was it a couple of years too late, but also Williams as a team completely screwed up in terms of personnel on his side of the garage. It was only once he stood up for himself late in the season at Williams that his potential became obvious to the casual onlooker who wasn't aware of what was going on behind the scenes. Was able to show his true speed in the US with his championships there. Post-horrific accident, his comeback with the World Touring Cars was great. His first win was so emotional, and I remember one victory where with his artifical legs he climbed to the podium, but was so excited and eager that he fell going up the stairs. There was a sharp intake of breath from everyone around not sure how to react, but he pulled himself to his 'feet' with a massive smile and made a joke of it which eased the tension and broke the atmosphere again. 100% dedication to everything he's ever done, and if any of you haven't read his autobiography you HAVE to get hold of it. The best racing book I've ever read bar none.

Michael Schumacher: He's flawed. He's deliberately driven into people and cheated. I believe that. BUT at the same time, he is a phenomenon. You absolutely HAVE to have respect for the sheer volume of wins and championships he managed to accumulate (of course with the help of many around him). Possibly the strongest team leader in the history of F1. To still be amongst the best in F1 (and I believe in the Red Bull he'd take the championship over every single other driver on the grid right now, no exceptions) at 42 is fantastic.

I have many others, but not the time to write about them at the moment, so that's all for now. Again of course, people may disagree, but the above is all in my opinion.

Yeah id like to empahasise that again that its about drivers you support and dont support, dislike shouldnt come into it, just brings bad vibes into the thread, and then someone has to say something.

Seeing as everyone else has given reasons I be as well join in the fun.

Favourites

To name a few of many -

Michael Schumacher - He just raised the bar for everyone else in both records and pushing things as far as he can and occasionally going too far. Plus his involvement in various good causes is pretty good too.
Sebastian Vettel - One of the best out there and a joy to watch racing.
Jim Clark - Huge amount of natural talent and ability and a farmer too.
Alain Prost - Probably the first of the “thinking” drivers and also seems a nice chap.
Felipe Massa - Good driver but has lost a lot of his form since his accident in 2009.
Ukyo Katayama - Japans best driver until Kobyashi. Just kept joining the wrong teams.
Jakie Stewart - His work on safety and having the stones to go against the established thinking on safety back in the 60’s and 70’s.
David Purley - tried to save his friend Roger Williamson from a burning wreck at Zandvoort in 1973 whilst the marshalls looked on. His attempts were sadly futile and Williamson died. Purley is a hero in my book.
Gerhard Berger - One of the best defensive drivers I have seen in F1.
Jean Alesi - Seems a top chap and also specialised in joining the wrong team at the wrong time. If only he had joined Williams instead of Ferrari he would have been a champion.

Drivers I don't support

To list 'em all -

Damon Hill - He’s just plain boring and I’m a Schumacher fan, then there was his various radio transmissions during Spa 1998.
Lewis Hamilton - Plain don’t like him.
Nigel Mansell - Steve Wright is deadpan, but funny. This guy is just downright depressing.
Ayrton Senna - Plain don’t like him. T-boning Prost is excuse enough.
Fernando "I didn't do it" Alonso - Up his own backside and involved in far too many incidents where he always seems to know nothing.
Rubens Barrichello - His constant whining about his days at Ferrari. He must have been the only person in the world who thought driver 1A and 1B meant he was on equal status with a double world champion and at the time the guy that was often called the best F1 driver in the field.
Jaun Pablo "I'll have seconds" Montoya - His refusal to diet.

I've always liked Alex Zanardi too. Such a shame about his time in F1... a few years ago, there were rumours about a possible one-race return with BMW Sauber, which would've been great, but it never formed into reality.... :(

Well that's funny 'cos I copied the text above from my earlier post. So both of them say "Don't support".

I thought the idea ofthis thread was to mention the drivers we support and don't support. Can't support someone if you think they are a tit can you.

They didnt mate, i saw it the first time you posted, before it was edited, it did say dislike, i made a mental note of it, hence my first post about not saying dislike if we can help it.

And no you cant support them if theyre a tit, but that there above ^^^ was just a joke. Its also a bit  neccesary, given that everyones reading to see why people support, i dont think anyone cares about why anyone would not like anyone.

These are in order of Constructor and which team mate is winning with in that constructor. I will get them all done.

Sebastian Vettel
Image

This year, we see a completely new person. This guy was in junior high when I was starting my 2nd year of college. Its remarkable how far he's come. At least on camera he's a humble person. He knows how to sling the cars around the track. He is exactly what this sport needs. He's not a sore loser, but you get the vibe hard when he doesn't do well.

Mark Webber
Image
I like him. He always talks to the camera. He's also not afraid to call out bullpoo when its happening. He's also a pretty damn good driver, but something happened between 2010 and 11. He doesn't seem to be pushing as hard, yet is still high up in the points. This may be a true example of the car.

Jenson Button
Image
I actually knew of him from Top Gear. He was on their twice. He was super funny. Seeing him race in 2008/10/11 I have no doubt he is on the caliber of Vettel, Alonzo, Hamilton. He has to be one of the nicest people in the sport, and its probably why my next baby if its a boy will be named Jenson. A proud person to be named after. Even when he loses he keeps his composure.

Lewis Hamilton
Image
Now here is a driver. I saw him also on top gear. I watched him spank in 2008, I watched some youtube of him in gp2. He's incredible. He knows how to drive, he is fearless. His sportsman ship of losing isn't the best, but i for one cannot wait to see him in a better car. He will destroy the field. He's also a really nice person when he hasn't just been confronted after a loss.
