Edit: Just seen your post phil, there was hardly anything in the Senna part that didnt slag Prost off lol, it should be about why Senna is one you support not about why someone else isnt as good.

I understand your observation. I wasnt trying to "slag Prost off"... I think I did give reason to why Senna was better towards the end of the Senna part. It just goes to show the true rivalry between those two. IMO you cant talk about one and not mention the other because they were both fantastic drivers who beat the sh!t out of each other on the track and probably off... lol

And using who scored more is pretty pointless and disrespectful to Senna in my opinion, both raced knowing the points system they then raced accordingly doing what was needed to win the title. Senna got the title in 88 therefore no argument put forward can change that fact.

Just a couple from the past for now, will post more as and when!

Damon Hill - top guy and a top driver, better than most give him credit for. The near win at Hungary in 1997 in what was a backmarker or at best midfield car is frankly a legendary drive.

Stefan Bellof - killed young in a sportscar accident in 1985 but a sodding good driver. Good enough to win multiple F1 championships - just watch Monaco '84. For some reason Senna has been made the hero of that race but Bellof was catching both him and Prost, having started near the back of the grid. He still holds the outright lap record at the Nordschleife too, i think.

Nigel Mansell - a phenomenal driver, and for me, a superb role model for sheer determination and drive. Probably my all time motorsport hero. So many great races and stories, my favourite is probably Silverstone '90... Having seen Mansell outqualify him at the previous round, Prost decided he wanted Mansell's car so the team swapped the cars behind Mansell's back, with him only finding this out once he actually drove the car in practice. So what does Mansell do? Take Prost's car and stick it on pole, nearly a second faster than him! Then there's that epic move on Berger at Mexico the same year. Has to be one of the greatest passes ever. If you haven't seen it:

Jaques Villeneuve-After seeing what happened to his father the fact that Jaques had the courage to start his racing career only two years after his fathers horrible accident is amazing! A person with that kind of strenght is very rare. I know alot of people like to make fun of JV & as a fan even ill admit he does some pretty funny stuff at times.... but he is still to my knowledge(which is pretty poor),been closer than any other driver to winning the ultimate motorsport treble-Indycar champion-F1 champion-Le Man 24hr winner. He got 2 out of 3, & came 2nd at Le Man in 2008.... i think Mansell is the 2nd closest to achiveing all three,but he unfortunetly only lasted 5 laps at Le Man.... would be interested to hear if anyone knows of any drivers that have done better??

Michael Schumacher

The talent of Michael Schumacher is more than just the 30+ records he set in Formula One. It's the way he impressed everyone from the moment he set foot in a Formula One car. It's the way he was able to drive a car to the edge in any situation. The way he brought Ferrari back to the top and brought on some of the most dominant years in memory. It's the way he set a new level of fitness, how he made sure everything around him was working optimally. He was the most complete driver in Formula One history.

Jim clark

The fact that he drove the flimsy Lotus around at such speeds alone earns the man respect, but the pure display of talent he has shown in many of his races is rare, not only in Formula One history, but in many other series as well.

Ayrton Senna

Passionate and incredibly fast, Senna could push cars beyond what many thought the car was capable of. While his latine passion also cost him points on occassions, his talent is unquestioned.

Alain Prost

Alain Prost was Senna's polar opposite, in that he didn't rely on pure passion, but was very calculated, and brought in the points and the championship with his very clean yet superbly fast driving style.

Juan Manuel Fangio

It's a bit of a shame I wasn't around in the 50's to witness this man, but the numbers really say it all. Even if he often had the best car of the field, it requires extraordinary talent to generate such results.

Best drivers of today
Sebastian Vettel

The impressive thing about Vettel is not just his blistering speed, but the way he is developing himself into a very complete driver. He has always been fast, but still had many things to learn; but, he is learning, and he is learning fast. The way he's driving this year, making virtually no mistakes, taking control of situations, staying strong under pressure, quickly overtaking when necessary; the difference between Webber and Vettel shows the difference between a good driver and one of the best.

Fernando Alonso

Alonso showed early on in his career that he could drive very fast in underperforming cars, and how he helped Renault to the top shows he's a great team leader. Alonso's weakness seems to be when things are not quite working for him, but when he's got a car he can work with -fast or slow- Alonso can drive it around as one of the best. While he has not made many fans with his personality, his never-ending perseverance to win makes him one of the best drivers of this era.

Lewis Hamilton

Probably one of the hardest drivers to be a fan of, simply because of the 'oh no' moments he puts you through, Lewis Hamilton's raw speed is undeniable. Whether he will be remembered along his hero Senna as one of the all-time greats, greatly depends on whether or not he can develop into a more complete driver. A true team leader that can help develop a team and push it forward, and a driver that can keep his cool (not crashing into people) while still getting the job done (not being stuck behind Schumacher).

Sebastian Vettel - the first driver I really followed through his career. I think he will break a dozen of records to come... My favorite driver!
Jos Verstappen - IMHO unlucky, talented driver, best starts and latest braking EVER, managed to start from 18th place and to get in 2nd in just 3 laps or so...
Nigel Mansell - the almighty moustache man, fantastic driving, one of the best tricks in overtaking, EVER
Alain Prost - the brain of the game, extraordinary driver
Alessandro Nannini - great talent, bad luck... Too bad...
Niki Lauda - balls of steel!

He was Schumacher's main threat in '02, but the Williams wasn't capable of taking the fight to the Ferrari all the time, and he was a title contender for much of 2003. 2004 went tits-up for Williams, but he still managed to pull off their final victory at Interlagos.

Then came McLaren, and although he was largely bettered by Kimi Raikkonen in terms of results / points gathered, the explosive way in which he left the team suggests he wasn't totally a happy bunny with the way things were. A shame. He could've done well.

Hahaha, he also had that crash with Montoya... The brakes on that Arrows were something really scary...

Ayrton Senna for me,not only was he the most exciting driver I've ever witnessed,but was also a compelling man to listen to.1993 for me proved he was the best driver i've ever seen.

Since then the first driver i've really liked a lot is Lewis Hamilton,simular sort of style,although not as good
Would love to of seen the likes of Gilles Villeneuve and Jim Clark, but I feel it's silly to say people before my time as I don't have enough facts and witnessed their carrier enough.

Drivers is disliked :
Alain Prost : for crying to the stewards,bosses of F1.
Fernando Alonso : if theres trouble ,he's normally just far enough out of reach to not get done.
Michael Schumacher : hand picked team mates,made them pull over,drives people off the road,it's one thing to go for a gap it's another to do what he's done so many times.

Tyres didnt suit that year. 'tennis' accident. Huge under achievemnt! A magic racer and overtaker. Stuffed it to Schumacher more than anyone.
