I can't see Monza being a Red Bull track. Expect a McLaren or a Ferrari win here. Merc should put in a strong showing.

You said the exact same thing about Spa and Red Bull had a very strong car for that race.

I wouldn't count them out for a win as they still have the strongest all round car on the grid.

Well I'm bound to be right at some point.

Spa was a surprise win I think for Red Bull and If Hamilton hadn't crashed out and/or Button had qualified better I think the result would have been quite different.

So, back on the subject: Can we expect another mad strategy from Vettel for Monza? Last year he did an awesome job, this year the car seems to be faster on the straights.

I hope he crashes on the last lap. (of course not if Button or especially Hamilton is behind him).

Actually I'm hoping that Alonso's crashes on any lap but a crash causing his car to stop 1 metre before the finish line on the final lap would be great. :hehe:

Clearly you want to go to he'll some day. I mean why hope Ferrari crashes. They are divine especially at Monza. A win for ferrari will be a win fir F1.

Well hell is warmer. Besides, you are hoping Vettel crashes. To me Ferrari are just another F1 team and are no more significant than McLaren or Red Bull, nothing more. I once thought they were more and even supported them but find that impossible now.

You once supported Ferrari? So what made you turn cold hearted. Like in football one should never change teams. You have broken the rules, thus you are a traitor yes?

Not so much as turning cold hearted, just seen the light (hallelujah). Well first Luca di Montezemolo was quite disparaging about Schumacher's achievements with the team, then they paid of Raikkonen for Alonso and a huge bag of Spanish gold, then there was the German GP last year and Ferrari lying by spouting rubbish that is was better for the constructor's to have Alonso finish ahead of Massa and then there is the continual screwing of Massa. Once Massa (and hopefully) Smedley move on Ferrari will have nothing going for them at all. And there is Domenicali's constant moaning about other teams having something they didn't think of - like the double diffusers and the EBD - fair enough he's annoyed that they missed the boat but how about having your own versions rather than try and get things like this banned. The guy just annoys me, he is not a patch on Jean Todt.

Traitor? No, just don't see anything to support at Ferrari these days. Maybe if they get rid of Domenicali and Alonso then I might change my mind but that is a long way off, but I can be paitient. It's annoying that Vettel is on the Ferrari radar - that is going to be a confusing time (there mentioned Vettel and got this back on topic :D ).

FA on SV:

"I don't understand the criticisms about him, that he is not a real racer," Alonso told Auto Bild Motorsport. "He is a great champion about to win his second title and has remarkable qualities; a lot of speed. Yes he has the best car that gets a good place on the grid, but you need to be able to get the most out of it at every race and Sebastian does that very well. Even in difficult moments or when he makes a mistake, he is always fighting for the win. It is proof of his great qualities."

That's a big compliment from the driver about to be dethroned as the youngest back-to-back world champion :yikes:

Is this supposed to be news?

Any champion is a great champion, from Vettel to Rosberg to Andretti, you dont win it by being crap.

Im coming round to the fact Vettel might actually be a great driver rather then a good driver in a top car, the top car bit is hard to pick out but hes definitely fast, its just i see that as his sole quality at the moment,

For me, what Sebastian Vettel has, others have, and more....

Meanwhile Stefano Domenicali has been bumping his gums and taking out of his diffuser re. Red Bull.

“With all due respect, they have [one] title and we have 16, so if Red Bull do half of what we have done then maybe we will have a re-think,” Domenicali mused. “The question is, who has the better foundation? I don't know if what has happened at Red Bull is because of one or two good people. For us, we are currently building a new Ferrari – and then we will start a great period.”

Any team winning a championship is a great achievement regardless of how old the team is. Another way to look at this is Ferrari have been in F1 since 1950 (61 years including this year), Red Bull have been in F1 since 2005 (6 years including this year). Ferrari's strike rate of championship winning years is 26.2% compared with 33.3% for Red Bull. 8 of Ferrari's championships were between 1999 and 2008. Apart from making Domenicali look a bit daft in his disparaging comments about Red Bull, I really have to ask, what the hell have Ferrari been playing at for the past 60 years?! Usually build a mediocre car and occasionally bother their backsides to cobble together something decent?

Typical Ferrari arrogance but if you look at the likes of Adrian Newey or Ross Brawn, they are often seen looking at other cars on the grid. Heck, drivers usually have a good ogle at each others tyres after qualifying or a race in Parc Ferme. I recall Schumacher having a good look in other cars as well, but I don't know if this was just having a laugh or if it was anything serious.

No matter what level someone is at there is always something to learn from the competition, even if they are relatively new, 'cos the newbie's are whuppin' the old boy's bottom all over the F1 calander! :whip::thumbup:

I had quite a bit of respect for Alonso after last year. I said at one stage that he was the deserving WDC. I changed my mind after Vettel's rebound, but Alonso was still the best driver of last year for me. He has come a long way in my good books after his reputation for being "Teflonso."

And now, my respect for him has grown even more.

Like everyone has alluded to - for me Vettel's greatest strength is his speed. His qualifying is absolutely supreme. But the other things I like about him are:

- His mechanical mind (for which he was praised for at 21 years of age. Think of his capacity to grow here.)
- His ability to focus on the greater race picture and be calm, instead of focussing on the here-and-now. I.e., he only overtakes when he has to.
- Tire management. Think about Monaco and Silverstone this year.
- Defensive driving skills.
- Ability to learn from mistakes.
- Some superlative drives with STR (Japan '07, China '07, Monaco '08, Canada '08, Italy '08, Brazil '08).

Yes, his overtaking ability might still need to improve, but he proved he can do a bit of it in the STR. In Belgium he did a few of them in order to win the race. He had to do them. Watching his overtakes, it looked easy. But I could swear he was lining up for the overtake two corners before he made each move, so that he could woosh past his contemporaries.

Some champions carry themselves better and actually act like champions, especially the younger champions

You could be crap and have no competition the year that the driver wins the WDC
