I think Senna did a good job this weekend. Qualified well, finished the race and on the lead lap... considering a drive through and an extra pit stop for a new nose.

It will be great to watch how things go from here. Renault started out of the gate so promising (at the beginning of the season I had them ahead of Merc on my list), but have been lagging back into the midfield. Petrov and Senna are both drivers I like to watch. Lets hope that Eric B. can get the team back on form for next year.

Me too! I think this is an exciting driver line up. Hope they have a good car next year. that would be SO cool :P:yes:

Yep, Senna did well but his lack of experience with being that far up the grid and in driving this car in a race situation. Hopefully Monza will go better for him. Petrov has really upped his game this year. I predict him to be Russia's first race winner. You read it here first! :D

He'll have to attract the attention of a team other than Renault for that to happen. Renault aren't the force they once were, and I doubt they will be any time soon.

It's a shame that their exhaust didn't deliver the results it should have. It was a great piece of innovation (that's what we want in F1!) and should have works but it hasn't. A real shame indeed.

What next for Kubica then? :wavey:

I think that this is Petrov's last year at Renault, or Senna will be scalped by another team. We are going to have a very interesting off season while we work out what happens to Renault and Toro Rosso....

Yep, Kubica is a tough one. I honestly cant see him being fit enough to race. If by some miracle he is, then Renault have a dilema on their hands.

Toro Rosso is easy, Algy and Ricciardo.

Renault depends on two things, really - Kubica's fitness, and Petrov's cash. I know they are very keen on Grosjean, and at the same time Senna has a good relationship with Boullier...

Senna has a fair bit of cash behind him too. Then there is the Senna name, in a car with the same colour scheme as the John Player Lotus - great PR for Renault. Certainly not an easy decision to make.

A lot is going to depend on Kubica's confidence. The body may be willing but the mind may only be willing up to a certain point. He may be able to get fit enough but having nearly died I really hope he doesn't have the "what if's" always at the back of his mind.

Scotty - was the some guy your sig. refers to Boris Johnson in an article he wrote for GQ? I saw a repeat of Top Gear where he was being interviewed and I'm sure that quote was read out.

will be interesting to see how they manage Kubica's comeback if it does happen. Senna probably needs to show that kind of form for a few races before he can be judged properly really.

Nick Heidfeld has officially parted company with the Renault team, it was announced on Friday, after a settlement was reached to bring an end to the dispute over his position in the team.

The German was dropped by the Enstone-based outfit for last weekend's Belgian Grand Prix, and had been set to take the matter to court later this month to try and prove that his contract was still valid so he could win his seat back.

However, following discussions between Heidfeld and Renault's legal representatives since Spa, a deal has been reached to bring the matter to an end.

Speaking about the situation, Heidfeld said: "Obviously I'm disappointed to be leaving Lotus Renault GP in the middle of the season. I thought I could still make a big contribution to the team, but I have to see things as they are and I want to turn my attention to the future.

"We have taken the right decision by choosing to end our collaboration today. I would like to wish all the friends I made at Enstone a successful end to the season. One thing is for sure - I'll be back racing at the highest level soon."

Renault team principal Eric Boullier added: "Our disagreement with Nick has been the subject of much media coverage lately, and we are pleased to have reached a swift and reasonable solution. Our separation process was already a painful one, and neither of us wanted to go through another legal hearing.

"We're very grateful to Nick for the highly valuable contribution he's made to the team. We certainly had good times together, in particular remembering our podium finish in Malaysia. He is a very strong and determined racer and we wish him every success in the future."

Heidfeld was drafted in to the team as replacement for the injured Robert Kubica. But despite scoring a podium finish in his second race in Malaysia, the German failed to repeat that form over the remainder of the campaign and often struggled to match team-mate Vitaly Petrov in qualifying.

Boullier decided that the team needed a shake-up after the summer break, so drafted in Senna as Petrov's new team-mate for Belgium.

The news of the Heidfeld settlement means that Senna will finish the season. The team had always said that its intention was to keep the Brazilian in the car for the remainder of the campaign, and this has now been officially confirmed.

This week's AUTOSPORT magazine revealed that Heidfeld is in talks to join his former F1 employer BMW for its new DTM programme next year.

I think we've seen the last of Heidfeld in F1 to be honest.

Aye, I think he's had his day. Solid, but not a star. Time to let some of the young 'uns give it a try.

Maybe he can snag Danica's old seat.

This thread has gradually made me realize just how glad I am that this forum didn't exist when Ayrton was alive.

Oh the debates existed face to face, just not in cyberspace.
