But then they have races that go from Middle East, to far east, to europe, to south america, to middle east?

Its one mind for one thing and another for another thing.


Im pretty sure one transatlantic flight from London to New York uses as much fuel as all the F1 cars do in an entire season, if not more. Im also pretty sure that these planes are flying about constantly, starting in say, the 1970's.

Dont see people moaning about them, infact, i dont see people moaning about F1, they just chose to get all green under seemingly no pressure at all.

F1 is a sport, a motor RACING sport, innovations like KERS that i believe Mercedes C class use now is helpful, downsizing engines does not create green innovation, it just lessens the spectacle for no good reason.

yes the flights are far worse than the actual races. its all about image, green image is important in the world right now. F1 is just keeping up with the rest of the world. Face the facts, fossil fuel won't last for ever. You talk about evolving the sport yet want to go back 50 years.

Do you want F1 to be another NASCAR stuck in a homologation 40 years old? NASCAR have only recently decided to use fuel injection after years of carburated V8s. I mean they aren't even allowed to use digital gauges, it all has to be old school needles.

I didnt say anything about wanting the sport to go back 50 years, the highest point of evolution before the downgrading was 2004, they were the fastest of all F1 cars, i did however say, go back to them and let it evolve from there.

We are in a state of devolution in F1.

Also, fossil fuels are running out, but what is the point your making, i dont see the aircraft industry experimenting with anyone remotely green, no solar power no nothing.

If your point is that F1 wont last forever on fossil fuels, course not, but theres a time and a place for that dilemna, and its way too early.

Even if some day we run out of oil, f1 can still run on biofuel, and I thing this whole green thing is hypocritical and has to do with tax collector Govs and and big energy Corps making more profit with the enviromental propaganda. I don't say there is no problem at all I just say that if they really wanted to change something for the benefit of humanity that would be the industries,the marketing that promotes unnecessary consuming, cargo transportation, toxic powerplants, etc. diesel trucks n taxis, and then the cars we drive.
I agree with bud about the image of f1, but imo it is something the sponsors push forward. It surely wouldn't be so exciting to see v4 1600 engines in the future, all the exotic feeling of f1 would go away

Fraffy youd be surprised how fast the engineers in F1 can make things go fast, its never too early to start.
Aviation do you refer to civil or military? Civil only cares about getting bums in seats, passengers only care about getting to their destination fastest way possible, the makes Boeing airbus etc only care about selling aircraft. And at this point the jet engine has no counterpart. Road going cars is a different story.

Biofuels may appear green but for it to be harvested and processed is probably just as damaging as petroleum.

In the end I don't really care what pushes the cars around, racing won't change and unless you go to a lot of GPs the tv viewers won't miss a beat! And ive heard every F1 engine since I started going to races in the 80s. I've probably experienced the sound of the engines in person more than most on here but things change.

It's not that fossil fuels are running out as quickly as Greenpeace and other such groups would have us believe, it's just that the oil is getting harder to reach with existing technology. Whatever is used in the future to propell motor vehicles is going to produce vast amounts of pollution in the manufacturing and development processes.

The environmentalists all tell us we should be pottering around in electric vehicles. What these people convieniently ignore is that battery manufacture is extremely un-green, batteries last about 3 - 5 years then they need replaced and disposed of, then there is the extra demand on the national grid which is fed by mainly coal, gas and oil fed power stations which in turn will consume more fossil fuels to generate enough electricity.

Hydrogen fuel cells is the way to go. The technology is very nearly affordable - I think the Honda FCX Clarity costs around the upper £20K, so hopefully in the foreseeable future the prices wil come down with Government support. The technology is already in use and processing hydrogen is apparently no more harmful than processing petrol.

Yeah unless electric power is harvested from solar or wind hydrogen ismthe way to go.

The wind tunnels use up far more resources than the fuel in the cars.

If F1 were controlled by me then I would love to see more of a better distinction between driver and constructor. I would like to enhance qualifying by making q3 a spec race between the drivers that will determine their qualy position in a feature race which drivers would be allowed to use a different car which is constructor base to show the technologies of the company. The spec race would require all of the cars to have the same aero features from car to car and have the same engine and map settings. this would determine who the best and fastest driver really is. the winner of the spec race would have pole position in the feature race and be granted 25 points to the driver and 5 for the constructor. The feature race would allow constructor to really showcase there design talents and points would be awarded to constructor and driver and winner would receive 10 points for driver and 25 for constructor. I believe that for the constructors portion or the "feature" race I believe any thing should be accetable to enhance the car as long as its safe for the drivers. from blown diffusers, fan cars, big engines, active suspension, traction control, etc. this way you would see who has the best damn car. I think there should only be one tire manufacture but change that from year to year. its about the cars battling not the tire companies. I would fire Tilke as track designer, I would bring Imola back. I would have a 16 count race calendar, not 20!!!. I would bring refueling back but only in the feature race not the spec qualy portion.

Track wise:

Dump Valencia, Bahrain and abu Dhabi from the Calendar. In their place: European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring, the French Grand Prix and bring back the Turkish Grand Prix (at least that track has exciting racing).

Move the Spanish Grand Prix to a different track.

Rule wise: Allow the re-introduction of mid-season testing open to the public on the day after some races.

Australian/Chinese/Spanish/British/German/Belgian/Italian should all have testing days With a track TBD in the back end of the season.

bring back the tyre war as well as a Qualifying tyres.

Allow the re-introduction of the spare car, only to be used when a car has suffered damage or failure. Once used, cannot be swapped back.

none of this 8 engines to last the season. you get one per race.

V10 Engines.

no starting the race behind the safety car. if it's deemed to bad to start the race, then you wait.

NO f***ing NIGHT RACES. 1-2pm race starts.

any crash deemed bad enough on the first Lap to warrant a safety car, the race should be red flagged and re-started. with those drivers involved in the crash allowed to use the spare car, but start in the pit lane.

Disable DRS in qualifications.
Bring Turkey,Portugal and Argentina back,also remove Valencia,Bahrain and Abu Dhabi.
Consider the 107% rule again.Should it remain?
Can't change anything in car or pit stop when the race is stopped.

I would make sure Ferrari weren't paid more than the teams which beat them in the championship.

Make sure full live F1 coverage was available on free-to-air TV in the UK.

Unlimited tyres for qualifying / qualifying tyres.
