Jacques Villeneuve says Kimi Raikkonen did not deserve his Formula 1 title

I agree with what he says about Massa but to say that Raikkonen didn't deserve his championship and was lucky is total .

I guess this is the case of the pot calling the kettle black. I can't remember the name but there was some Canadian driver who landed in the best car in 1996, won the championship in 1997 and then got greedy and followed a pot of money to BAR and then achieved very little.

He just sounds like a disgruntled employee now. Bad mouthing F1 at every turn. Quite sad to see really.

As a former champion himself, i think he should be doing a little bit more to help keep the credibility and prestige of championships; otherwise his could become......... oh wait, it already is... meaningless.

I find that rich from the guy who scrambled across the line to win the WDC in a car that was clearly the fastest against a car that was 3rd or 4th fastest by the end of the season (arguably). If Schumacher was in the Benetton or McLaren, he would have won the championship. Schumachers stupid moment @ Jerez excluding, I personally think that he deserved that championship, and if he had not drove into JV, people would have applauded his efforts a lot more imo.

I have said it time and time again; EVERY world champion is a DESERVING champion; they scored more points than anyone else come end of season, anyone that says that a driver was lucky or didn't deserve the world title needs to get their head examined including Jacques Villeneuve, he just needs to be locked away in a room (padded cell) alone with his thoughts!

I don't agree with your sentiment at all. Not every champion is a deserving champion. Some have been lucky by being dropped into the best car, or having all the real competition removed by either injury or team changes. Some are even bad winners and sore loosers who blame everyone else but themselves. These are the twits who do not deserve to be champions. Winning an F1 championship should be a privlege and not a God given right. Sadly some so-called champions have this the wrong way round it seems.

It's true that some are more deserving than others but there are some drivers who do not deserve to be a champion. To me, a true champion pays their dues and works their way up to the top. Back on the good old days the true champions were the ones who could take a dog of a car by the scruff of the neck and go a hell of a lost faster than they should in the equipment provided (ok, this hasn't happened for at least 10 years)

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that one, there's a few drivers who I will weren't world champions but I wouldn't say they were undeserving, well maybe Adelaide '94; Schumacher cheated his way to his first world title, I'm still waiting for Damon to punch Michael in the face for that move... shame stewardship was much more lax back then!

You're going to have a long wait. Hill has since admitted seeing Schumacher getting very friendly with the wall, albeit he didn't know his car was damaged, and that his lunge was a bit desperate. So to say Schumacher cheated his way to his first title is total and utter . Racing incident is all it was.

The stewards were lax in some directions but far too over teh top in others. I gather this was during Mosleys love of Williams (which followed an infatuation with McLaren then Ferrari and a brief one with Brawn) at the time so it figures that there were some shenanigans in 94.

But getting back on topic (a moderator the source of off topic discussion?! Good Lord the world's gone mad - first Englandshire, now here - is there no sanctuary from the madness?! ), I reckon that Villeneuve is just steamed that he is no longer part of the F1 party.

I never really liked the guy, he always came accross as a big headed mouthy prat. However, he commentated on one of the races earlier this season and I changed my mind thinking my opinion as wrong. Just goes to show I should always stick with my initial instinct!

Really? I suppose that Jerez '97 was a racing incident as well, Schumacher was well aware of the situation on both occasions. In Adelaide, Schumacher made a mistake and clouted the wall then went full throttle forcing Hill off the track around the corner, that was no racing incident, it was a cynical move by Schumacher as was the move on Villeneuve in Jerez '97!

Again we'll have to agree to disagree! I have just watched the incident again and I can not see how that was anything that an attempt to take out a rival driver!
