Hope things cool down very soon, and you guys in Britain stay sharp!

But really...the situation there is a fine thesaurus example for 'mountain out of a molehill' isn't it?

Maybe where you're from riots & looting are everyday occurrences...?

Where do you think I'm from?

I mean I'm no patriot but if you think the whole of Asia is a mess or something, you need to seriously brush up on general knowledge. :hehe:

I see that Bernie has weighed into the fray, suggesting that it would send a terrible message to the rest of the world if Premiership games are cancelled because of the riots. Why do I think he's more concerned that he'll lose money if QPR doesn't play?

The night before last they said that there was rioting in oxford. what they meant was that someone had put a window through at mcdonalds, and a bin caught fire outside carphone warehousw. If that is a riot and not a normal night in a city then I must be hard core.

He won't loose any money. The number of matches will not be reduced, only matched could be postponed to a later date.

Carrying on as business as normal sends the message of a giant 2 fingers to these morons that are wrecking the place. It shows that the world doesn't stop for their pathetic temper tantrum. The man makes a good point about carrying on as normal where possible.

The e-petition entitled “Convicted London rioters should loose all benefits” has now passed the threshold of 100,000 signatures and has been passed to the Backbench Business Committee to consider for debate. It will continue to be available for signature once the site is re-opened.

Everyone I know is cheering about this. Do they honestly believe it will be approved?

A better option would be 2 years of community service, fix everything they have trashed, cutting their benefits will simply provoke more trouble & rioting!

Anyone watch the Question Time special (on the riots)? Most riveting, albeit predictable arguments about the causes of the riots, the British working classes, the British youth, the police and their authority, vigilantes, the student protests of last year, the government and of course, the consequences of this week's events.

John Prescott really took the bull by the horns, and David Dimbleby, as usual, handed the heated topic excellently.

Either way it's going to cost the tax payer a fortune.

What they should really do is find a ship that is due to be broken up, strip out the engine and tow all these mindless numptys into the sea off the Somali coast and leave them there in the very rusty hulk. Either the sharks will get them or the pirates will. Maybe I'm a bit old fashioned in some of my ideas but that's more than they deserve.

In the words of the great Scottish philosopher, Billy Connolly, hanging's too good for them, it's a good kick up the ares they need!

Really? He usually witters so much that even he himself doesn't know what he's on about! :hehe:

I didn't watch it, can't stand David Dimbleby and the audience members are usually from the moral majority who have no idea what they are speaking about but are desperately trying to look intelligent for the cameras.

I'll hopefully catch This Week's coverage of the riots. Andrew Neil is very even in his take on things and leans much less towards one particular political party than Question Time.

The petition won't pass, but they can complain they got the signatures later in the future. The government should at least acknowledge of the petition.

The government's idea is to block Facebook, Twitter and Text/Instant Messaging... genius, punish the innocent as well, idiots!

Whilst I'm generally against the idea, even I would put it up for consideration given the circumstances. Although things in the other cities looked to be rather random, it was definitely highly organised in Manchester, with groups waiting around until orders were received either on their phones or from messengers on bikes. They'd be mad not to at least discuss it, though since they're discussing whether or not it would even be right to do it, it looks like they're going in with the right view.

At the end of the day, there was at least as much positive use of social media as negative, with many police forces around the UK making use of it, as well as people in or near riot-affected areas being able to give information on places people ought to avoid faster than it could be reported by media outlets.
