How is the US covering this? I'm watching it all live and it's :yikes:

I texted my bro (who lives in Camden) and told him to stay indoors. His reply "It's starting to happen here, we're just going out drinking tonight!" Aaaaaagh!

I hope your brother stayed in. My OH is a policeman in Camden and the police car he was in was attacked in the high street last night. They're all okay, thank goodness.

Jaysus, Juliet! That is awful. I'm guessing he has to be out there again tonight? I used to be married to a police officer, so I get the worry *hugs*

My bro lives on a canal boat in Camden. He works from 3pm to 11pm, I'm not liking the image of him walking home tonight. He's not bothered, of course....grr!

I don't want to make light of what is obviously a worrying time for you but if things get a bit dodgy in Camden your brother can always just float out of harms way.

Obviously I don't know your brother but him saying he is not bothered is maybe just a bit of bravado aimed at stopping his family from worrying.

I do exactly the same with a mother who is a born worrier be it if I have been walking about a roof trying not to get attacked and/or decorated by flying rats (mentioning being 1 step away from falling 8 floors due to me not paying attention was not a good idea!) or in my current on-going lack of employment.

My bro travelled all around Thailand by himself at seventeen. He's one of those crazy types. This is not the first time that my sis and I (both more than ten years older than him), have sat biting our nails. We're not maiden aunt types, we're all pretty crazy actually, but my bro is the type who would mingle with those laid back rioting folk just to get what their beef is. Trouble seems to follow him wherever he goes, the stories!!! The drama!!! I'm so not surprised that he got caught up in all of this.

Raiding Manchester. Fun. :(

In other news, there are football fans on the streets of their towns patrolling to deter looters, in large numbers. Crazy times.

To be honest, it's similar than the aftermath of a Scotland v England game at Wembley.

The difference being we know when to stop and us Jocks end up being eith far too drunk or far too hungover to resist arrest.

You've got to laugh 'cos if you don't you'll cry!

Was meant to see some friends in a play in London, but it's been cancelled due to everyone's safety! The streets around it are in tatters...

Thankfully nothing's come near my bit of London at the moment.

Hope you don't get caught up in it. :/

Thanks mate  It's been much quieter in the capital today and so far this evening.

Can't believe it's hit Manchester now too. Nowhere's safe

This is now just violence for the sake of it.

It's a mess up here. GMP are getting stuck in, though.

Whilst I can see that rioting is still taking place in the UK, I also do not want to listen to the media because I'm sick of them hyping everything up all the time.

London was quiet last night - and yet the media are still trying to make a meal out of it - standing in front of burned out buildings and the like.

Same with the sharemarket, same with swine flu, same with Azariah Chamberlain... etc.

Hope things cool down very soon, and you guys in Britain stay sharp!

But really...the situation there is a fine thesaurus example for 'mountain out of a molehill' isn't it?

I heard that they canceled a few football matches over there including a international friendly coming up between England and Netherlands.

Maybe where you're from riots & looting are everyday occurrences...?

Hammer has a point. It is typical of the press to exagerate. This was covered in the news earlier today.

There have been some foreign news publications which have described the riots as being UK wide rather than in just a handful of towns. Apparently, the German government has advised against travel to the UK.
