How is the US covering this? I'm watching it all live and it's :yikes:

I texted my bro (who lives in Camden) and told him to stay indoors. His reply "It's starting to happen here, we're just going out drinking tonight!" Aaaaaagh!

The way I understand it, some taxi driver was waving a gun about. It was a handgun and seeing as those have been illegal in the UK since Dunblane it will have been an unlicensed illegal fire-arm. The police shot the guy because he was waving a gun about and suddenly the police are the bad guys.

I guess the so-called "silent moral majority" who are wrecking the place in a silent and moral way would have been happy if this guy was left to wave his gun about. Let's face it, with idiots like these, there is no right answer. Shoot or arrest the guy and police are being heavy handed, let him go and they are not doing their job.

Of course, the tax payer and those of us who have insurance policies will be footing the bill for repairing all the damage. I'm willing to bet that a large chunk of the scum that are wrecking the place don't pay tax so no skin off their noses! Sadly, the UK is far too namby pamby with situations like this. Can you imagine the same happening in the US?! The army would be there with live ammunition and water canons. Here in the UK, the police are given a crash helmet, a plastic shield, a stick, a tin of pepper spray which only works at close range and a taser if they are lucky. Man, is the UK soft?!

What a buch a f**k-wits!!! :ranting:

My take is the poor, oppressed, government assisted yoots of London watched the developments in the mid-east and decided that they were equally down-trodden. Woe is me, nobody understands me!! The police hate me, wah, wah f***ing wah.

1. Libya is not f***ing London
2. Why take your hate out on Greggs? No sausage rolls for you tomorrow!

Too far!

I'm getting a long pointed stick, putting on my near indestructible steel toe cap boots (seriously, when the bomb drops all that will be left are cockroaches and my steel toe cap boots!) and I’m going to start the fight back against these mindless fools. No one smashes Greggs! Sausage rolls - food of the Gods! They have committed blasphemy of the highest order.

But it’s ok! Call me Dave has cut his holiday to Tuscany short. He’ll sort it all out. Boris Johnson tried, but it took him half an hour to say “clam down”, by which time someone had stolen him and he has no idea where he is and no one can find him. Chances are he’s been stripped down and sold for parts by now.

But being serious for a minute, I have a key question.

How many of these so-called protestors know what they are protesting about or against?

The burning of Greggs and subsequent announcement that Boris was on his way home...coincidence? I think not. Boris looks like he enjoys his cornish pasties. *hurry home! Must save the pastries*

Seriously? People obviously have some kind of beef. Fine. Protest. Set fire to wheelie bins, also fine. Setting fire to businesses and risk people's lives, yeah not so fine.

Oh My God, I was just about to post this and then my bro just called from Camden, he works for the BBC and he's trapped in his building. One girl tried to leave and was pelted with bottles, she had to run back in. He said that Camden is going to be next on the news, he's looking out of his window watching people throw petrol bombs. My bro is never ruffled. Actually, he still didn't sound ruffled, the idiot!

Sorry, Call me Dave is David Cameron. He was named Call me dave by Andrew Neil on This Week a while back. He does have a slight belly to him though. :hehe:

Not so good about your brother, hope he's ok. I just caught part of the coverage of the mayhem in Birmingham on BBC News 24. Their reporter was reporting that they were stuck on their floor of the building they are in. Seems that whenever their is a large scale riot in London, Birmingham often follows.

It is nothing more than an excuse for mindless destruction, violence and looting.

Minor report in the news in Canada. Main stories, the multiple stock market collapses following US debt crisis "resolution" and two injured in local targetted shooting. More was made of the UK retaining its AAA debt rating than the riots in Tottenham. Made half a page (inside, page eight) in the local paper, though. More important things like "City on building binge" and the stock markets, of course, made the front page.

Typical for the navel-gazing North American press. If it's on a different continent and no Canadians are injured it's not considered newsworthy.

I have been watching this streaming live on the BBC website; it's really really atrocious behaviour; it has nothing to do with the Mark Duggan shooting; these hooligans have used this as an excuse for criminal behaviour; looting, burning cars, shops and people's homes while the police seemingly stand back and watch from what I have seen on the TV footage. I tell my wife that the UK is a much safer place than the United States and all this bullpoo kicks off in London, great publicity for the Olympics, anybody would think cities of England were part of Beirut!

I hope your brother stayed in. My OH is a policeman in Camden and the police car he was in was attacked in the high street last night. They're all okay, thank goodness.
