Just for what it's worth (nothing, I expect) I've made a request for information regarding considerations that were made, alternative options that were looked at, justification for the decision and minutes of the meetings where the decisions were made. If nothing else, it might reveal exactly why they made this decision. "It's too expensive" doesn't wash with me when they've just paid £22m for the rights to air a talent show. As far as I'm aware, that £22m doesn't cover production costs, but that may be wrong.

I wonder if the bbc accept donations.

It's called the TV Licence. If you don't donate a big man with a hammer comes round and hits your TV.

why? the national side sucks and Aberdeen or any other SPL club for that matter have no hope over either of the old firm. You folk should look to other sports, maybe you can enlighten the locals? :hehe:

I don't understand the attraction of football. I don't see why they don't just decide which team is best and be done with it.

It's clearly not enough, the BBC have been told to make cuts.

But well, why shouldn't we donate ? The TV licence is £12 a month, how much is sky sports? If everyone's angry, and the bbc are saying it costs to much, its a solution, no?

They could have increased the licence fee just slightly to account for the cost, but they had been forced to freeze it by the government. Mind you, I can see why a lot of people hate to pay it. It's not exactly fair.

No tax is fair in that sense, taxes are compromises. They force people to pay even if they don't wish to prop up that system, as it's considered the only way for that system to be maintained.

Although it is harder to justify the licence fee, compared to say, NI contributions (tax for the health service for you filthy uncivilised people not from Great Britain). I guess it depends on how much you value guaranteed public service broadcasting and independent media.

Look at what they spend it in. If they really are as hard up as they claim it is little wonder. The BBC have no one else to blame except themselves. £145 per year from everyone with a TV set is plenty is spent wisely.

Bet f1 costs a lot more than other shows, again, they also have to cater for other shows. Look at the crap ITV and Channel 5 spend their money on, or Sky for that matter. It's just Sky have more money to spend.

The problem I think is a lack of funding for the bbc, fund them well and they do have the talent to produce great stuff. Squeeze them, and it's not so surprising they go for the cheapest options.

ITV and Channel 5 can put as much crap on as they like. It's not my money they are wasting.

The BBC are funded well. But paying the likes of Garham Norton £2,000,000 or some news reader £500,000 is totally unacceptable. Over paying non-entities for not doing very much is why they are having money troubles. They just have to learn to do more with less and stop wasting money at every given opportunity.

They won't have any decent staff by not paying them competitive wages, as soon as a new staff member got a better offer they'd jump ship, the BBC would loose out massively to others and people would further complain about the license fee being wasted as the BBC aren't very good.

If we're going to discuss if the BBC are wasting money, I'll come back later and look at it properly by looking for independent reports (naive I guess, a cross section at least). For all you know I could be making stuff up, or it is just plain inaccurate, and vice-versa.

I think I know where you mean. Was that the one in Auchinyell?

To be fair, I've only ever seen one fight when I've been out. Maybe I'm not going to the right places. I should have a night out in Tillydrone and I'll probably see more.

The pub next to me looks a bit ropey at times!

What a Shambles, It's all down to money, the BBC have seen record numbers this year as it is becoming more popula with the new requlations and the races are not a roundabout after the first few laps. It has become realy exciting this year and they are going to ruin it. Don't forget when ITV had it they put in a lot of adverts and one of the races they put then about 4 laps to the end and missed the most important part, they never repeated it, it was so frustrating.
I for one will not pay anymore to sky, Don't they know that we are still in a recession?
