Rossi is really our only hope for now.

Valentino?

I hate Nascar. A waste of precious race gas...

Well since the gasoline in an F1 car is the same pump fuel you put in your road car, it's impossible for Nascar(which does use specific race fuel) to waste what F1 uses. In fact, there are thousands of cars on the road now that I would consider a waste of gas, the same gas in an F1 car.

I highly doubt it's the *SAME* same gas as the one in my car. It's tested and tested and tested again for consistency and balanced for every individual environment they race in... that's not the same as in my road car. That would be like saying that a benched, ported and polished engine is the same as an engine not having gone through that process.

I have the same hunch as you but they commentators always say it's the same gas as in our cars. It's pump fuel which on paper means it's the same but I think they take liberties in their commentary box. It doesn't make it to a commercial pump, and consistency is more dilligently assured, but something about it makes it not a lie to say it's the same as our gas.

I was under the impression that F1 fuel was closer to aviation fuel than road car fuel, it certainly is a much higher octane than what is available at the pumps!

For Ferrari at least, they use the V-Power 98 octane rating, very very similar to what you get in the pumps. For the rest, I don't know.

Perhaps Canada should have a F1 team, That should get the US to react. :hehe:

There has been at least one, at least IIRC.

None of the American racing series are supported by the FIA.. so an american driver would have to be one that decided to go to Europe and race in one of the feeder series.

Alright, I'm going to quote Wikipedia here, and yes I know it's Wikipedia, but....

Additionally, drivers who have competed in the IndyCar Series are eligible for a Super Licence if they finished within the first four places of the drivers championship. This allows drivers from the United States domestic series to move into Formula One without first taking part in other FIA sanctioned events. Under exceptional circumstances Appendix L also allows the FIA to award a Super Licence to a driver who does not meet the normal criteria if a vote reveals unanimous agreement by the members, and provided that the driver has completed 300 kilometres of testing at racing speeds in a current car.

Yeah F1 cars run on unleaded fuel similar to road cars

To be frank, I feel that the US is just not capable to producing F1cars and drivers. <EDITED WB>

Are they? I thought they usually missed their targets. :hehe:

Ever heard of Mario Andretti?

Getting back on topic....

The US already has high profile series in NASCAR and various Indycar series. F1 is not high profile enough in so much that there is not a US GP (yet). NASCAR and Indycar is more of an attraction as they offer pretty much the same to drivers as F1. It's a bit like a British driver choosing to go into NASCAR or Indycar and not F1. Not exactly a common occurance without going through F1 first. In fact Dario Franchitti is the only UK driver I can think of that went straight to Indycar without going through F1.

Ferrari claim what they run in their F1 cars is 99% the same as pump petrol.

What they fail to mention is the Scuderia have 40 (forty) engineers whose job it is to formulate that remaining 1%.

I thought it's mostly Shell people though...

The comparison test with FA was a bit lame. They should have done a double-blind test where FA nor the mechanics know which type of fuel is in the car. Who knows what mind games Shell was playing on FA...
It would have been fascinating to compare Shell's fuel with other F1 brands in the same car
