NASCAR's attendance and viewership has dropped off precipitously the last couple of seasons, and largely courtesy of the "Car of Tomorrow." They've decided to follow F1's lead and make the cars all as identical as possible, only their fan base apparently is shrewder than F1's because they have left the sport in droves.

So the new Austin circuit might represent an opportunity for F1 to make a triumphal return to the states, except it won't take very long for the American fans to suss it out and realize that, just like NASCAR, there's very little difference apart the decals.

Was a shame, would love to have an American team in F1.

That blows. I mean, I have my guy I root for every week, but to have an American driver would be awesome. My instant new fan favorite, win or lose. They need to get into it. I wouldn't care if they were to finish last in every race. Just to have a little bit of home out there competing with all the other countries would be so sweet. America strives to be the best at everything. At the absolute pinnacle of motorsports racing, I can't understand why we are not in it.

Oh well, there is always Nascar. Seems America knows how to turn left.

They (USF1 team) were a joke.......America was saved a lot of embarrassment. They would find a way to come lower than last. They couldn't even get a car ready for the season, that's how bad they were! For an "All American team" they didn't sign an American driver (A Brit and a Argentine) either.

But if you're looking for an American to support. Alexander Rossi is doing okay in the Renault World Series (That and GP2 are the step below F1)

Well since the gasoline in an F1 car is the same pump fuel you put in your road car, it's impossible for Nascar(which does use specific race fuel) to waste what F1 uses. In fact, there are thousands of cars on the road now that I would consider a waste of gas, the same gas in an F1 car.

"Waste of precious race gas", was just a figure of speech. I mean, how much talent does it take to floor the gas pedal, keep it floored for the duration of the race, and make one turn (left) the entire race? I know there are a couple races throughout the Nascar season that are road courses. But 95% of them are exactly as described.

And its not that I "hate" Nascar, its just not for me. Let the rednecks go in circles and the hillbillies follow them from race to race. Just my opinion.

I highly doubt it's the *SAME* same gas as the one in my car. It's tested and tested and tested again for consistency and balanced for every individual environment they race in... that's not the same as in my road car. That would be like saying that a benched, ported and polished engine is the same as an engine not having gone through that process.

Ahh, a man can dream, can't he? No one jumps into a sport for the first time and dominates. Take years before a team could put something together enough to compete. But if America "was" in the beginning stages of building a car/team, and they did not get it done in time, seems like a waste just to scrap it all. They should of had a nice jump on this year.

USF1 was certainly a dissapointment. I'm not going to hate on them because i'm sure that there were a lot of people working very hard to try and make it a reality. But it just didn't come together. I think it's going to be very difficult to get another american driver in F1 now since Red Bull isn't sponsering any new american drivers. Rossi is really our only hope for now.
