Hi, I was just wondering why teams allow their radios to be publicly broadcast? Surely they would prefer to keep their strategies and tactics to themselves and the drivers. Could someone please explain. Thanks.

I believe it's related to the commercial agreement known as the "Concorde Agreement" that all teams signed a few years back; basically they have to comply with the commercial rights holder, e.g Bernie Ecclestone. All team radios are monitored by the FIA to stop underhand messages that will be to the detriment of other drivers, basically to deter teams from using team orders when team orders were banned from the sport, now the monitoring is almost superfluous but it has become a good part of the broadcast giving viewers an insight into the inner workings of F1!

"Magic Paddle now"... "I say again, magic paddle NOW!!!".

I know it is overdone, but I love it so much I will bring out the magic paddle whenever I can.

I thought they did this season?

The people behind the FOM feed can broadcast whatever radio messages they want; I think that Drthjustice is referring to the TV broadcasters themselves being able to pick and choose!
