The way I see it is, Hamilton is the Marmite of F1. You either like him or you don't (I really hope this advert aired in more countries than just the UK), there is no middle ground, I can't remember seeing anyone saying "he's ok". It's always like him or dislike him....

There's no one else in F1 who expends so much energy keeping his insolence on display.

I reckon practically all the drivers are quite arrogant, Hamilton just does a better job flaunting it. His fans view his hubris as confirmation of their confidence in him, others -- like Nigel -- regard it a symptom of immaturity.

What's Mansell 50 odd? Compared to that lewis is immature. Everything's relative.

well, maturity isn't necessarily age related, and Mansell, I guess, was comparing him to the other f1 drivers.

Confidence, or immaturity, arrogance or lack of humility whatever you call it, it's not a case of one or the other. There's quite a bit of middle ground. Some of his fans can recognize he's got generous helpings of both.

Yeap, the same Nigel Mansell that crashed his car 5 minutes into a 24 hour race.

Doesn't mean he can't recognise it in others, by that logic we should never criticise f1 drivers unless we have better driving credentials ourselves.

Absolutely not what I mean, however I do take anyone's criticism with a grain of salt, given his comment that he's he's had no issues passing cars in Monaco, 20 years ago. The comparison itself does take the legs out from under his comments.

It was said before, fatherly advise... what kid takes advice from their parents? No, they go out anyway... make the same mistakes, and then return the prodigal son. You can't "advise" experience, it's got to be gotten on your own.

This thread makes me laugh...If Lewis really "didnt give a toss" all the talent in the world would get him precisely nowhere in the team orientated exercise that is winning in F1.

However he'd probably like the idea of his competitors thinking he "could't give a toss" since it adds to his mythos as an uncompromising operator.

All these "has beens" are hypocrites in a big way giving opinions on high moral grounds when their own morals were poo. Hamilton is Saint compared to some of these bozos ,Mansell included.

Now you're talking! Or in your case, never criticize Alonso :hehe:

? Never I agreed with that logic, implied the opposite. Or did you cut my quote deliberately to make it look like I said something I didn't?
#266880
Not saying you did agree with it, you criticize everyone aside from Alonso.

Ultimately I do believe what you wrote, where do we arm chair folk, get off having a go at these guys for their driving? We all have a fans opinion but it means stuff all in the scheme of things.
