Anything 238 or over would guarantee him a win.

:yikes: seriously?!?! i was way off :( *thanks for crushing my hopes and dreams that Mclaren could somehow get back in it * :hehe:

Well no! Thankfully I'm I'm wrong... since I'm not accounting for the gap of the points to the other drivers. I haven't had my afternoon "pick me up" tea. :D

In absolute terms, in a 19-race season, under the current points system, 406 points are needed for anyone to guarantee 1st place. That's 10 wins, 8 second places and 1 fourth place. In these terms, the best the competition can do is 9 wins and 10 second places, which gives them 405 points.

Of course, this scenario is utopical because it requires the top two drivers to be the same every race. In practice, the runner-up will get much fewer points.

So, let's see where we stand right now:
- Sebastian Vettel leads with 204 points;
- Mark Webber is runner-up with 124 points (a difference of 80 points).

There are 10 races yet to be ran; with 250 points in dispute for the winner, and 180 for the runner-up. Effectively Vettel could be second every race for the remainder of the season and would be guaranteed to keep his lead. The most points Mark can get are 374, so Vettel needs 375 to assure the championship (171 extra points) - if he doesn't win anymore.

But if he wins, Mark can't get 25 points per race, so Seb needs less and less total points the more he wins (and the more the guy right behind him doesn't get the best possible result). Then the points threshold will go down by at least 7 for each win Vettel takes. Assuming consecutive wins, the lead of 80 points will extend by 7 points each race; then it will take 5 wins and a 4th place to secure the championship, which could happen as soon as Japan - with 4 races to go. Vettel would be champion with (at least) 341 points.

These are the worst-case scenarios for Vettel, where Webber keeps on maximizing his score. 341 points if he racks up wins, 375 if he doesn't.

Then, there is the best-case scenario: 2nd place is stuck on 124 points. If that would happen, it takes only 2 wins, a 2nd place and a 9th place from Vettel to shut the championship tight in Monza (which is to say, it's impossible to end the title battle before Monza). 274 points.

So, if Vettel keeps doing his best, he'll clinch the title somewhere between Monza and Suzuka. If he doesn't, well, then anything could happen. :)

I know we are not meant to mention a certain clip on the 2nd page but I was having a read through this thread and am extremely dissapointed to find it is still there! Surely this is not the place to discuss the history of German between 1939 and 1945?

Why is it still on here?

Anyway to matter on the German GP, 5 day weather forcast here. Early days for an accurate prediction but it could be wet one.

The last wet Nür was a pretty eventful race, Alonso and Massa arguing post race in Italian :hehe:

That was funny. I found a translation of it.

Alonso: You did it intentionally, as in Barcelona.
Massa: No, I did not.
Alonso: You broke my sidepod there – go and have a look at it!
Massa: Go f**k yourself!. You won and you say something like this.
Alonso: Mate, it can’t break itself.
Alonso: I have fought with Heidfeld, with everybody, what you did with three laps to go can’t be done.
Massa: He wins and says that. You must learn.
Alonso: It is you who has to learn. I have fought with everybody and with three laps to go, we touch!
Massa: (Sarcastic) Bravo.
Alonso: Bravo you!
Massa: You say that I did it on purpose, like I did that on purpose in Barcelona?. You were remained behind.
(As this point Ron Dennis steps in)
Dennis: Boys calm down.
Massa: Tell him to!

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

As I'm off to germany tomorrow I've been looking at the weather closely for a few days.It's looking more and more likely by the day that there will be rain at some point.A week ago they were saying 30% chance of rain each day,it's been going up from that daily :thumbup:

edit : at least it's dry in the pubs :wink:

If it rains all weekend, i would put some money on Schumi to get a podium. It feels like forever since silverstone.

That was one race I was siding with Alonso. Massa was a twerp and a half for denying what he tried to do. And man, he looks like a stubborn child in a verbal fight...I almost felt sorry for him.

I remember a fight he had with DC in San Marino some years ago, where he ran DC of the road and gave him the finger.

Later in the parking lot when he was leaving in his car, DC came over and grabbed his neck telling him smth like "No one gives me the finger" and Babyboy's parents in the back seat had to ask DC to let their baby free.
