The way I see it is, Hamilton is the Marmite of F1. You either like him or you don't (I really hope this advert aired in more countries than just the UK), there is no middle ground, I can't remember seeing anyone saying "he's ok". It's always like him or dislike him.

To be honest I was in the dislike camp from the start and still am. I did start to warm to him when he started to act with a bit of maturity a while back but his attitude towards the those that are trying to help is really disappointing.

About my comment to Billindenver, just a clever way of saying let it go. Life is too short. We all know where each other stands on this. We know who likes and dislikes Hamilton.

I can't recall a driver that has ever evoked this much feeling. Usually there is a common consensus reached eventually, but where Hamilton is concerned it is always 2 camps, each at polar opposites to the other. It really is quite remarkable. Either that or I am easily impressed.

I think you sum it up quite well. Schumacher also aroused such feelings of like and dislike don't you think?

We can tell who's in either camp, no need to chastise, and not need to repeat what can be found time and time again. You don't have to moderate this place, it's a PITA to mop up after people's messes.

How is hamilton learning? Beats me, he's such a crap driver he's obviously got it all wrong. What advice would you give him?

Well since you asked. I would tell the little tike to revert to what he appeared to be attempting in the beginning of the season. Shut up, stop saying immature things to any press member that walks by and do your talking on the track and only on the track. At the beginning of this season it was very apparent that someone had finally given him some coaching to keep his inflammatory BS silent in the press. He was doing a great job of that and I was warming up to the guy. Even complimented him several times in this forum....then his results started to fall, and he made some mistakes (no big deal)....but rather than man up and take his failings like a grown up, he started throwing around accusations of steward favoritism and then finally resorted to the race card.

Ok, his true nature is back and he 'couldn't give a toss'. That's fine....but don't expect everyone outside of England to just sit and watch with a muzzle on so that our comments don't inflame the british bias in here. Hamilton's results are lacking lately. His mouth is in full blown overdrive. Perhaps if he parked the drama and concentrated on racing....his results would come back. 2007 had tons of drama, typically in here blamed on Alonso...but which driver has shown the most drama since then? Who really was causing the drama back then? I don't know, and at the time I thought they were both being crybabies...but since that time Alonso has been as drama free as a top driver can be, where Hamilton continues to be dramafest after dramafest. It's hard to ignore.

To a lesser extent I think. There seems to be a happy medium reached eventaully when discussing his antics but, as is the nature of such things, there are always be a few stragglers who will stick at their opinion and do an impression of a stubborn mule refusing to budge. But when the man himself is quite self critical at times there is usually less to argue about compared to someone who is not as self critical. I guess that is something that comes with age and experience.

Moderation is a task that I don't envy of anyone! I appreciate that this can be difficult.

Did hamilton run off with our girlfriend or somethning??? This is so wierd, how he upsets you so much. Yeah Alonso's happy, he has a number 2. lewis was his equal and he couldnt hack it. Dont worry yourself about lewis's results, they'll come back when the car does, you werent at Silverstone were you. Well he was magic, in the car and in the interviews.
And lay off the British and the English nonsense, thats not why I support him and there are plenty of non British that do. Funnily enough, we like how he drives.

Hmm only time McLaren were investigated during the 07 season for team orders was for Monaco on claims the team favoured Alonso... Funny how after that when treated equally is when the s*** hit the fan with Alonso blackmailing the team by season end.
Alonso drama free since 07? He has been involved in a couple "gates" since and let's not forget his antics towards Petrov that was a level headed 2x world champ taking losing like a man...yeah right

Ouch! Another one. Sooner or later it'll sink in - or not

Very sensible and toally correct comments from Mansell (it's not often I agree with anything Mansell says, this may be a first).

Hamilton has stated that the only driver or ex-drivers opinion that he would care about is Senna's and there is only one way that he'll meet him (if you believe in the afterlife - I don't). Make of that what you will.

If he would listen to the comments made by those who are not only very experienced but successful he will go far but his extreme arrogance prevents the sensible stuff from being heard. I guess you can drag a horse to the water but you can't make it drink...... :banghead:

nothing wrong with believeing in the senna way not a bad example to follow, lewis fights for what he truly believes in a bit like senna

Wasn't Senna's whole thing let me past or we are going to have a smash? Great role model that.

Anyway, this isn't about Hamilton following the Senna style, it's about him saying he would only take advice from Senna - a dead guy! In other words, he's saying "I'm wonderful, I know everything, I don't need any advice from anyone." Total load of :bs: . We all need advice from those more experienced than us at times. Anyone who says that they don't is a arrogant prat. Truth.

senna is legend he was a hard racer !

I agree with Bill somewhat but it has been blown out of all proportion; Lewis has let his frustrations get to him both in his driving and his interviews but it's time to let it go; he has redeemed himself over the British GP weekend with his driving and press interaction. I just hope that his new leaf remains turned over, moaning about the lack of pace in the car won't help it go faster!

I like variety, it's what guarantees a difference in results. We've had the conversation before and it's why I like McLaren's use of two distinct yet clearly workable adaptable winning solutions with their drivers. I find that I don't get emotionally attached to drivers, they're drivers, some smarter than others, some more mature than others, some better pool players, or hockey players than others, but I could give a sh!t about that. I watch for the driving, and to see remarkable things being done on the track. That remarkable thing can be passing 8 cars on pure fight, or it can be passing 8 cars on tire management, they're both skills that can be exploited masterfully.

Unless you've got a personal relationship with an F1 driver, no one can say who they are or are not. Especially if it comes merely from interviews or quotes, from a source with an agenda which the Mansell interview and quotes clearly have. So I choose what I perceive to be the pragmatic route, excite me on the track, and I'm a fan.
