He made a similar claim last year around this time and came damn close. So who knows. Would be nice to see, and if he can do it, I am better mclaren still can too.

mclaren....are you serious.... they really need alot of worked done if they want to chase Vettel.

they arent that far behind mr ferrari. Remember there was quite a bit of lady luck at that race. vettel's bad pit stop, button losing a wheel. he was basically handed that race.

hmmm....that could happen to anybody in any race. But ye i do agree what you said about vettel's pit stop and button's wheel.

And lewis' lack of petrol. He overtook Alonso beofre that kicked in remember! And when it did kick in and he had to slow down he still held vettel behind him allowing Alonso to escape. Mr. Alonso had a lot going his way that race.

I have to admit to wanting to see Alonso out qualify the Red Bulls...or see him beat them on the track without any pitstop misadventures before I will be convinced the Ferrari now has the legs of the Red Bull.

This isnt to take anything away from Alonsos win at Silverstone where he drove impeccably.

Alonso was the fastest person in that race, once the first set of soft tyres warmed up. He caught up to Vettel and Webber, and continued to pull away from them after that.

And once lewis ran out of petrol.

But what Alonso was good at in the second half of last year was consistently finishing well and scoring well. I think I'm right in saying that Vettel didn't lead the championship at all last year until the last race? Meaning, we don't know if he can handle the pressure of being the championship leader at the later stages of the championship.
Also, perhaps what we saw in Canada with Vettel making a mistake under pressure from Jenson is what could very well happen later in the year if the points are close?

it will depend on the car advantage. I dont see Ferrari or McLaren getting a big enough advantage to put enough pressure on Vettel. Even if Alonso wins, Where is Massa? Ferrari are so preoccupied with Alonso at the detriment of Massas races. So Vettel will just need to stay behind Alonso and not worry.

Saying that I dont see RedBull being challenged until they are happy enough and just concentrate on next years car.

Alonso's comments needs to be taken in the spirit, and the specific wording he used. Regardless of what you think about Fred last year he made a call that was absolutely spot on. It was uncanny how he said what it wouldtake to win (and it wasn't just at the end of the season). Excepting the last race not only did he predict what it would take to win the WDC He did precisely what he said needed to be done, and did it all with the exception of making the mistake of covering Webbers race and the rest is history.

This thread deals with a best case scenario that Alonso has not said "If I do this I will win”. He simply stated in an intelligent, articulate and insightful sense that he is not giving up. That is the only prediction he has made. If you have followed his career one thing about him that is a real strength of his, is that their ain’t no quit in that Freakin' guy. If you can't find anything else to endear him to you, his refusal to quit is very admirable and praiseworthy IMHO

Ferrari is not preoccupied with Alonso! Both of them have their own race engineers, and support tech's. Massa is starting to up his game a little and in his own words has admitted he has had a problem adjusting to the Pirelli's. This really points to Alonso being a better all around pilot. Ferrari wants the WCC just for their marque. That is very important to them. To say they are not trying to get Massa's racing act together is really naive. It appears that Alonso is simply faster not only in the race but especially in quali. I love Massa. I thought it was great when he got edged out by The Boss for the WDC, because Ferrari's star Kimi who was a great F1 pilot had to ride bitch for Massa in the last two races.
Yes he was under team orders to help Massa win the WDC.
If Massa would have gotten out to a really fast start this season he would be Ferrari's man. If you don't believe that then you have been reading the Sun too much…… Word!

Oh come on! Ferrari will think nothing of compromising Felipe's race if it better's Alonso's.
Yes they have seperate engineers, but those engineers get told what to do FERNANDO IS FASTER THAN YOU DO YOU UNDERSTAND FERNANDO IS FASTER THAN YOU. You cant tell me that was Smedly's idea of a good strategy for Massa. And they keep Felipe out on worn tyres if it can help Alonso. I cant imagine thats Smedley's idea either.

Ferrari is not preoccupied by Alonso? Let's look at that.

1. They paid off Kimi Raikkonen to make way for Alonso,
2. They have ordered Massa to let Alonso past, most notably at Hockenheim last year,
3. Massa was ordered to jump out of Alono's way in this years Australian GP,
4. Santander, a Spanish bank, pay the bills,
5. Tyre strategies appear to be to the detreiment of Massa.

I rest my case m'lud. :judge:

Silverstone was virtually adorned with Huge Santander Banners all along the track.
Are you suggesting that the BRDC, and Silverstone itself were in it to see Fred win?
Face facts Alonso>Massa end of story. I don't care how much money he makes he is a winner,
and F1 is damn lucky to have him in the field otherwise Hamilton would be the only one that could touch Vettel.

Santander sponsor the Britsh GP, thats why the flags were all round the track. They also sponsor McLaren (there are a lot of santander banks in the uk as well as Spain). They sponsor Ferrari and also Alonso personally and were instrumental in him going to Ferrari and also in extending his contact to 2016.

No, I didnt suggest they do. I was just explaining the sponsorship situation and why there were Santander flags around the circuit at Silverstone.
