Na he will never shut up his critics, they will always find something. If not his driving, its his interviews, if not his interviews its his hair cut, if not his hair cut its who he hangs out with. NO he will never shut up his critics, but really his critics are the ones that need to take a good look at themselves and question the motives for their actions...

Same with all drivers. They all have their doubters who will nit pick into a drivers off track life etc. Vettel will never shut up his critics, Button will never shut up his critics, Schumacher will never shut up his critics, Alonso will never shut up his critics, Massa will never shut up his critics etc etc.

Just one of those things, best not to take it too seriously. I tend to just laugh when I read some of the attacks on the drivers I support.

Yes, as the level of success rises, the number of fans rises, but also the number of critics. Poor Vettel and what's in store for him.

Lewis will never shut up his critics but he sure put Massa in his place at Silverstone race finish. Guess that didn't go down well with them either.

Look at the way things went for Schumacher and the amount of hate directed in his direction (I remember when he crashed at Silverstone in 1999 there were idiots cheering and applauding as he struggled and failed to get out of the car. Murray Walker who was commentating was totally disgusted at these so called F1 fans). It'll sadly be the same for Vettel. Their paths so far are very similar and hopefully Vettel's future success will be every bit as good as Schumachers. Sadly some people will just not acknowledge that he is every bit as good, if not better than the driver they support.

The bigger the driver gets the easier it is for the "haters" (I hate that word!) to feast when things don't go well. However some drivers do regularly put themselves in posisitons where it is difficult not to extract the micheal.

I'm glad you understand, since no one currently has more fans and consequently more "haters" (everyone hates that word) in the sport than Hamilton.

Well stated Andrew. Personally I don't think the drivers give a toss about these perceptions of them as they are only the manifestations of overzealous fans.
As for me I pull for the Ferrari drivers, but I admire all of them, and you will never hear me slag any of them, I only give observational opinion. But when it comes to actually rating the drivers I don’t think there is a fag paper between Vettel, Alonso, and Hamilton in terms of talent at the top. MHO

I dont think Vettel will get to the level of hate (from the British at least) as Schumi did, that was down to his and Damon Hill rivalry, and his taking out drivers to win titles. Vettel hasnt done anything to hate him for, he is a likeable fellow and is damn good.

He did drive into Button last year in Spa. "Crash kid",

Although yeah, on the whole he's a pretty nice person.

although that wasnt on purpose, like Schumi with Hill and Villeneuve. I was privileged to be at the 94 race where he and Hill came into blows. The crowd there was not all that happy with Schumi taking HIll out. I know i didnt like Schumi for a long time after that.

Point of parliamentary procedure;
The only multiple WDC's in the current field are Mike, and Fred. :wavey:

ESPNF1:
Former world champion and current driver steward Nigel Mansell says that Lewis Hamilton needs to 'settle down' and 'act appropriately' in the wake of a number of recent outbursts.

Hamilton's on-track woes have been compounded by a number of run-ins with FIA stewards for his overly-aggressive driving - particularly regarding his collisions with Felipe Massa and Pastor Maldonado in Monaco.

His latest outburst came at the British Grand Prix when he slated his team for a tyre decision that left him qualifying tenth on the grid and again after the race when ordered to conserve fuel at the expense of a podium finish.

"Lewis is not mature and he's not got a head on him," Mansell told F1 Racing magazine. "I think he needs to settle himself down because the recent episode at Monaco was unnecessary and unflattering both for himself and Formula One. I thought his driving style was very poor because he had no respect for anyone else because where is anyone going to go?

"To say that overtaking is impossible at Monaco, well... I've done it coming out of the tunnel several times... but then to say what he said about the stewards was appalling. I was very disappointed and he's got to remember that he has been a world champion so he should act accordingly and appropriately at all times."

Mansell added that Hamilton ought to take a leaf out of fellow team-mate Jenson Button's book about the right way to behave as a former world champion.

"Both Lewis and Jenson were both great world champions at the time and it's absolutely fantastic to have them both in the same team but Jenson, for me, carries with him just that little bit more maturity."

Ouch! Another one. Sooner or later it'll sink in - or not
