I agree. That was an overtake I wouldn't have expected from Jenson...Lewis isn't the only one learning things from his teammate!

And losing to Lewis in wet conditions is no biggie...everyone 'lost' to him on pace when the track was fidgety at the start. That's why we support him.

Watching him blitz those early laps was A MA ZING!! He was in a class of his own again in the wet. As soon as the playing field is levelled, he's at the top.
You could see his car twitching through the Beckets complex, just on the last corner before the hanger Straight. that was in the dry as well. The redbulls didnt or the Ferraris.

Dont stand then. I dont. I stayed outside the stand this time to watch the red arrows so I missed the standing up bit anyway. The red arrows are superb!!Dont understand the communist comparison.

When your whole stand is standing i wasnt going to sit down, im not that socially dispondant that i could manage to have everyone round me wonder why i was so anti-british and not care.


The communist comparison is because it is countries like Russia, North Korea and China that have public displays of force, soldiers, jets, music.

Red Arrows were alright, dont know if the national anthem was played cause of Prince Harry there, military band parading up and down the straight, infact even the police were on the grid. Silly.

I watched the race again last night. It was one of Lewis' most entertaining drives in a long time, there was passing, there was anticipation, there was drama and it was all capped with an amazing crescendo finish.

As Harry is still serving in the military

The police were there on the grid because Harry is a very high profile terrorist target
And his security has been stepped up (Especially as he might be going back to afganistan,
I'm sure the Taliban would love revenge for Osama)

And in a communist country you would have been forced to stand for the national anthem or arrested !

It's really more of a nationalist thing though? With regards to national anthems. Showing unity, strength and glory of the nation and all that. Closer to fascism then communism.

It's called patriotism! For the best example see the USA!

The national anthem was nothing to do with harry, they do it every year, for your info Fraff I do remain seated if im in a stand. Why stand if the anthem upsets you? It doesnt upset me, just cant be bothered to stand up and drop all the stuff on my lap.
The red arrows are for the crowds entertainment not for a display of force . They perform at large public outdoor gatherings. And they are pretty cool!! One of them is a woman

Was that army or school you were forced? Can't really escape doing it in those situations.

They always have this sort of thing at the British GP, it's nothing new. A bit of expensive pomp and ceremony is just what a near bankrupt nation needs to put on. The less cash floating about the more showing off gets done. It's what Britain does best.

If the GP was held in an independant Scotland it would be very cheap in deed - Flower of Scotland played on a penny whistle and pots and pans drum kit and a fly past by the RAF vertigo division (they thrown paper aeroplanes for obvious reasons). Very cheap indeed!

It would be rude of me to tell you exactly what I was preoccupied with during the national anthem before the British GP but standing would have been quite inconvenient, but I have never stood and never will stand for the British or any other national anthem. Apart from anything else, I am not full of nationalistic pride and besides it is extremely outdated.

You see that sort of thing in communist countries and they are the furthest thing away from fascism on the political spectrum, either way its far and away beyond the point of what was said,

i always prided myself on being British that we didnt muck about with things like that, same with Bejing 2008, you got the air that they did it all to kind of make up for something, Britain has nothing to prove to anyone, i bet they do the same at London 2012 when it should really just be what the olympics is really about, fun and sporting masterclass, rather then showing off your nation self-convincing that your something special.

The Red arrows didnt really bother me, none of it really did, its just cringey and unneccesary.

If theres one thing i cant stand (and there is only one thing i cant stand) about the USA its the blinded patriotism.

As such i really wouldnt call it the "best" example, unless its something to be proud of. The domineering, self-righteous attitude of plenty of americans and its government towards the rest of the world is literally the only fault i can find with them, great people, but it is.

"For your info Fraf", i really really cannot understand how hard it is to put comments to usernames theyre all seperate, i havent questioned anything about anyone in this thread, not least doubting your body position as a song played.

The anthem doesnt upset me either, i didnt even imply that, i just thought it was cringey to be told to stand up half-heartedly, some people even started singing along, just cringey.

Used to want to be in the RAF as a Pilot, hence Future RAF Pilot F.R.A.F, havent for a few years now, didnt know theyd finally got a woman onboard.
And we couldnt even see them because they decided to fly over Becketts for the show. Nice noise though......

Speaking of being force to stand i used to live in America, and as a recently expatriated Briton i found having to salute and sing to one of the 100,000 US flags at my school every single morning a total waste of time but scarily indoctrinating.
