British broadsheet Press= Best in the world

British tabloid press= scummiest, bigoted, stupidest in the world

Glad to see that paper go, so its 168 years old? It was lost the moment the pushover British law system enabled Murdoch to buy whatever he wants, the percentage of stuff he controls here i hear is far greater then in australia and america.

He is a right-wing scumbag as are his conservative cronies and the hacking of dead soldiers is the lowest of the low.

Also agree more then 500 percent with spankyham, who is more stupid the people taht buy these papers or the papers themselves?
Even though my mum and dad read it and so do i  , but only out of habit, we're all well grounded in how much tripe they dish out, and well aware its not be taken seriously.

Actually they used to support Labour. This was discussed on This Week last night and it seems that Murdoch/News Corp' support whoever is or going to win. They mentioned that Gordon Brown had stated that if he still had the support of News Corp' then he would be Primeminister.

I don't think Murdoch has any real political leanings given the way he seems to change sides. He could just as easily have had Labour cronies if he hadn't jumped ship.

Do you mean Question Time last night? I watched that.

And i personally find the suggestion they support the incumbent political party nonsense, they did NOTHING but diss labour pre-present-post the general election, and they still do it now, putting down ed milliband in every single edition. They are Tory through and through, naturally of course, as they are right-wing.

He supports himself really, whichever party he thinks will best serve his interests will get his support. That tends to lean more to the right of course, seeing as his interests are capitalism and to make money, left wingers (and hence the newspapers they read) would be more suspicious of someone owning a large proportion of the media for profit purposes, the power would concern them more than accepting his right to make profit.

Notice how the takeover of Sky was delayed until after the Conservatives got in? Even now, that's being refused to be sent to the competition commission, might be another case of where the E.U is our best bet to save us from ourselves.

I'm not sure how much of the media Murdoch still controls taking into account the collapse of News of the World, but its still probably over the 25%(?) threshold that enables a public inquire to be called.

People talk about freedom of the press all the time, surely freedom has independence as a prerequisite?

The BBC had to endure cuts as well.

There are definitely political quotes about from centuries past that go along the lines of ultimate power is gained through gradual small steps.

Letting this mutt buy everything is a step too far.

To be fair, the guy is spectacularly bad. :hehe:

Only in the eyes of the right-wing press. Conveniently enough.

I'm sorry, but the way he lets himself get destroyed by Cameron, who I don't rate as being particularly great, really lets him down. That slimeball brother of his would have been far more suitable. However, I will not let my jest turn this in to a political debate. I've spent enough time doing that at work this past few weeks. :)

So? The left wing press will be putting down David Cameron and every single paper puts down the tea boy, Nick Clegg. It's all part of the game. Milliband appears to be as much use as a chocolate fire guard, but I will concede that he is marginally better than the last clown, but not by much. As my Mum would say, he is a right drip. If I was to vote (I don't), it would not be for Labour and it would certainly not be for someone who sounds as weak as he does.

Considering the mess the previous administration has gotten the country into I say put the last lot in stocks and let us throw rotten veg at them, they deserve a bad press. To quote Billy Connolly, hinings too gud fur 'em, it's a gud kick the erse they need. :soapbox:

Incidently, has anyone noticed that Ed Milliband looks like a Wallace and Gromit character, especially when he smiles?

Right. Back on topic or else this thread goes to the Anything Else section (where there is already a thread about the scandal).

I'm taking bets on Murdoch buying out BE - no way :P

no way, Murdoch has become too radioactive and could be forced to sell his 40% stake in SKY. With the NOTW scandal still unfolding, Murdoch has $h_t in his nest regarding the purchase of any FOM rights.:clap:
