And its not in a good place, not really long enough. It would be better on the hanger straight, the long fast bit, then take them into Stowe.

I think that's the point, to help create yet another overtaking point on the track where its difficult to overtake. If they used it into Stowe, the slower cars holding up faster ones might as well move to the side and wave them by immediately.

There are two the old start finnish straight and into Brooklands. But only one detection zone again. :banghead::banghead:

I wish that the FIA will get the message that two DRS zones with only one detection zone is absurd... is there a technical reason why they can't have two detection zones?

I wouldnt have thought so. If they have the software for one surely they can programme it to do two. You'd think they'd have got the message by now.

Probably the only place there will be any overtaking. I didn't like DRS when is was announced and I still don't like it. It doesn't add anything except false passing.

We still have the thrill of the chase but then it is just a case of passing the magic butto and woosh, there is a nice gift, I mean pass. Far too gimmicky.

At Silverstone, however, the system will revert to just the one zone as was common earlier in the season, with the zone being positioned from just after turn four to include the turn five kink and the Wellington straight on the run down to Brooklands, which will be turn six on the new track layout. The FIA had considered having two zones at Silverstone, with the second being on the old pit straight after Woodcote, but have now decided one will be sufficient.

The detection point for the zone will be before Village, the new turn three.

Not having the Hanger as a drs zone should be a punishable offence. All I can think is they think they will be able to overtake then anyway,so try to get more places ?

So you preferred a full-on chase, which ended abruptly when the car behind encountered dirty air?

I would rather see passing through skill rather than a formality. DRS only papers over the cracks that prevent overtaking.

Although some of the activation zones have been located inaccurately and the resulting passes have thus been far too easy, the intention of DRS is simply to allow the car to get CLOSE enough to make a pass. The actual overtake STILL has to be done by the driver. That's probably why they've not chosen the longest straight for DRS at Silverstone. There are still some learning curves to overcome, but I'm all for DRS.

Maybe we won't need it for the Turbo era which begins in 2014.

Shouldn't that be learning "straights"? :)

I like DRS, too, but andrews's right in that it's "papering over the cracks", working around the real problem of aero preventing a following car from getting close enough to overtake.

Allowing variable turbo boost would be just another workaround.
