McLaren will have to wait until four weeks before the start of next season to find out whether or not their car has been approved for use by the FIA.

A meeting of the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) in Monaco today was due to discuss whether or not any Ferrari intellectual property had been used on McLaren's 2008 challenger.

This came after a detailed examination recently of the designs for the MP4-23 at McLaren's Woking headquarters by FIA-appointed officials.

However, the WMSC felt that it would be better if both McLaren and Ferrari had some input into the findings of the report, so a new meeting has been pencilled in for February 14, 2008.

A statement issued by the FIA said: "In its decision of 13 September 2007, the WMSC instructed the FIA Technical Department to conduct an investigation of the preparatory work by McLaren on its 2008 car to determine whether that car incorporates any confidential Ferrari information.

"This investigation has been concluded and a detailed report submitted to the WMSC. The WMSC considers that McLaren, Ferrari and the other competitors in the FIA Formula One World Championship should be afforded the opportunity to make considered representations on the report at an extraordinary general meeting of the WMSC to be held on Thursday 14 February 2008 in Paris."

The delay in reaching a verdict comes after McLaren F1 Martin Whitmarsh CEO told Autosport that he hoped the matter could be dealt with swiftly so the team could focus on their 2008 campaign.

The FIA are a disgrace. Once again they are showing they will do everything they possibly can to hinder McLaren's preparations for next season and, on the slimmest pieces of evidence they can find, prevent the team racing or start the season with minus points.

Furthermore, why do the other teams have to have a say in this? The FIA have appointed people to examine the MP4-23 and they will make a decision one way or the other. The car either does or does not have Ferrari intellectual property used in its design. Turkeys don't vote for Christmas so the other teams, particularly Ferrari and Renault who will have grudges, are hardly going to speak in favour of McLaren.

just started the exact same topic mate! and we both have said the same thing! f*** em i say! over it.
what is with the FIAs latest decision on the whole stepneygate saga

McLaren will have to wait until February well after the MP4 23 has hit the testing track to find out the decision from the WMSC.

whats with the announcment that all F1 teams will have a say on the report? i thought the matter was whether McLaren used anything from the dossier which Coughlan had, so either they did or didnt. why do the teams have to have a say on the matter? the forensic experts should have an answer should they not?

i believe they are waiting til after the MP4 23 has been launched and tested to see if its a pace setter.

if it is as the 22 was the same time last season they will ban it

if not they will let it be!

FIA corrupt as f*** and i for one am over the way it is run im over it! F1 forums are all based on this crap when we should be talking racing! I AM A RACING FAN what the f*** is wrong with everyone in F1?
I for one in my opinion put it all down sorry to say and sorry to insult the majority on here but i put it down to the way Europeans run things, you do not see this type of political bullpoo going on in American motorsport you dont see biased treatment of teams by the governing body. and i bet if you went on say a nascar forum they would be talking RACING now thats EXTRAORDINARY

Its the delay in confirming if the car is acceptable. Imagine all the work that's already gone into it and they still have a few months to find out if its going to pass.

If the FIA demand certain elements be stripped out, I reckon we'll be going through the court process again rather than seeing McLaren at the back of the field - which is where Max wants them to be. You're not going to attract new teams to this sport by treating them like this.

Gamba, basically, the team don't know even if they'll be competing in the championship four weeks before the damn thing starts. This is an attempt to disrupt the team's preparations for the new season. That is a scandal in itself, but what is also reprehensible is giving a say to Ferrari, Renault and the other teams. What business is it of theirs? Will their views be unbiased? What is the point of employing analysts to look at the MP4-23 if they can't come to a decision?

Max has just awarded Ferrari the 2008 constructor title three months before season start. A legal remedy for RD and Mercedes is the only option left. In upcoming WMSC hearing on 14-02-08 this will be the 3rd time McLaren gets screwed by FIA. This whole corruption atmosphere revolves around Bernie, the stolen $300M plus in commercial rights every year.

Now now that's ALOT of speculation and abit premature. I have faith in Ron D. that all testing and developement will proceed as normal and he will not let this 'farce' effect his goal's and motivation for the '08 car's developement. If McLaren's car is not approved for use in '08, which I highly doubt, I'll sell everything I own just to buy the plane fare so I can 'BITCH SLAP' Max Mosley personaly!!
