From my perspective, Jenson is driving to enjoy the ride. He's not aiming for heroics, if WDCs come, they come if not, hey he's already WDC, I'm sure he was already staring at a WDC-barren career during his time in Honda where he was known as Mr Average by the top teams. Brawn was a stroke of luck, the best in F1 history for a driver of Jensons calibre and he probably knows it.

His aim is probably to get as many wins as possible and to stay in touch with Lewis....

On the other hand, Lewis and Alonso have much higher targets to achieve, and frustration can creep in harder when you don't have the equipment 2 years running.

I'm really suprised by these comments from alonzo and lewis. Vettel deserves the win if you are just going to throw in the towel. We haven't even gotten to the really good tracks yet. Silverstone, monza, suzuka, hell I'm really REALLY looking forward to a DRY korean GP. f***ing quitters. Makes me sick. Notice you don't hear jensen talking this bullcrap. I really like lewis, but more and more, I am really starting to become a fan of button. He's a nice guy, he doesn't say stupid s*** at the end of races, he literally keeps his cool ten times better, and he talks to his fans before races. (on the grid with martin I mean).

I'm really sadden to hear lewis talk like this. I mean if you really look at it, the only difference between this season and 2010 is, vettel has gotten his points in the beginning of the season. But really was anyone that suprised? If you look at 2010, if he had not had reliability issues in all those races he got a DNF in, or went back 2-3 spots because of, he'd be dominating just as hard.

Do you really think the best option with the media and his haters was to come out saying he can still win?

Hes three plus wins behind.

They didnt say its over, they said its practically over, and why should they refrain from saying what everyone else in teh entire world knows, it is over.

He also said quite clearly and quite publicly that "Hell never give up" it was quite a rousing speech, i dont know whether youve seen that or not...

The day after seemingly throwing in the towel, Hamilton has gone back and said he'll fight for the title now.

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton has vowed to fight for the Formula 1 title, despite ruling himself out 24 hours earlier.

Hamilton struggled for pace at the European Grand Prix, finishing fourth to leave him 89 points adrift of leader Sebastian Vettel in the championship.

"It's finished really. In the sense of the title it's almost over," said Hamilton on Sunday.

But on Monday, Hamilton said on Twitter: "My team will never give up & I will never give up."

Whilst his mindset seems to jump around like a cat on hot tiles, things still look bleak for McLaren with regards to Silverstone, according to Lewis;

"I'm really not looking forward to it," added the 26-year-old Englishman, who finished second behind Mark Webber at last year's British Grand Prix.

"Of course, I'm really looking forward to seeing the fans because they always put a spark in the weekend and make it that much brighter.

"And I'll be going there as prepared as I can, racing as fast as I can, but we're not fast enough.

"[In Valencia] it feels like we've taken a step back in terms of performance or the others have taken a step forward and with the regulations changing I personally think we're going to take another step backwards.

"We'll have to see how the ban affects us but I'm a little bit nervous about it. I think we might be affected more than the two teams ahead of us [Red Bull and Ferrari]. It will be even worse for us.

"I don't really have any expectations. I hope that we can finish ahead of one of the Ferraris there. That would be a positive."

LOL ahead of ONE of the Ferraris...obviously he's indirectly hinting one of the drivers is useless.

But yeah..bad times. McLaren seemed to have the most potential of all three in Australia and they seem to have seriously lost their way. The technical group needs a shake up.

The season is not even half over with eleven races still to run and things could turn around very quickly for Mac and Ferrari. Even though it seem's Seb's WDC lead at the moment is insurmountable it aint over until the fat lady sings.

Isn't identical/same the same thing and do you honestly believe setup's were shared????

Vettel has a designer who perfected a chassis while Michael HELPED perfect a basically uncompetative chassis, a helluva lot of difference there even if one does not want to admit it but then again this forum is post 2007 aka Hamilton brigade year's.

The only thing Vettel has proven is that he can win is a chassis that is head and shoulders above the rest of the field, nothing more. Hell put Liuzzi in a '10 -'11 RBR car and he would be a race winner.

That quote got me a little confused too....but i understood the gist of what they meant...however i ofcourse disagree...for me it still isnt over...im hoping something spectacular will happen at Silverstone and then in Germany (basically Vettel not winning would do it for me although Germany is his home race) meh

Call me old fashioned at the ripe ol age of 29 but he's got younger fans he should be a rolemodel to. "quitting" isn't the best message.

Of course, I was just stating the idea that teaching youth its ok to quit, seems like something a wise old man like your self would say

You dont notice Jenson talking like his because he's playing a different game. He's not as fast as lewis and he knows this, so he plays up different things. He's clever, and good on him for doing what he does. Lewis and Alonso could fight for the championship if they had equal machinary and so they are more realistic about the situation and also probably more frustrated. In a way this situation plays into Buttons hands.There is no way lewis or Alonso would ever throw in the towel, they are your absolute competitive animals but when the playing field is not even they see the reality.

This was kind of a kick in the teeth for those who claim Hamilton and Alonso are "racers". Look at the great racers from the past - Schumacher, Prost, Senna, Piquet, Mansell (dear God), Lauda etc etc. I cannot imagine any of them throwing in the towel at this early stage of the year. It is not even the half way mark yet and there is talk of giving up. Pathetic! It ain't over until the rather rotund woman has started to warble and she isn't even warming up yet.

But I guess it is OK, Twitter saved the day and Hamilton has now said he will never give up. I wonder if Alonso will do the same?

Of course this is all PR BS aimed at luring Red Bull into a false sense of security and into mistakes.

However, if they want to give up and let Vettel get an easy ride to his 2nd title then that is fine by me!

Lewis saying the championship is "practically over" is not "giving up". That's stating a fact. He may act like a bit of a <EDITED WB> after poor races, but once he gets in a car, he goes balls out. Regardless of what you think of his personality or driving style, you can't say he doesn't try his damnedest. Same goes for Alonso, only he's not so much of a douche.
