There is growing interest in staging a grand prix in Hong Kong after 43,000 people turned out to watch Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari in a demonstration run. The city's motorsport president Wesley Wan said: "This was the first step and I hope it will lead to Hong Kong hosting a grand prix race."

Furthermore, could that be the tolling bell for yet another one of Europe's circuits?

I have my doubts. I think people would see it as a 2nd chinese gp. They didn't allow a gp in rome so I don't think they'd allow another one in china. There's already enough hate on the 2 gp's in spain, and I think they'd have needed a bigger turnout than 43,000 to give the idea merit....they'd need to get 3x that many year after year for the race, so 43,000 sounds insubstantial to me

I wonder what the numbers are/have been in Shanghai and what the viewer market is from China itself? Maybe a 2nd China GP will draw more of the 1.3 billion market if there's the interest.

The numbers for the Chinese GP have been dismal - they bussed in volunteers and students to fill some of the most gaping holes in the grandstands.

Score if you're a volunteer or a student then!!

Perhaps the HK race would be also a night race, but with more neons as a backdrop.

Im for any track any where as long as its not a tilke track!!!!

Some of the most exciting and action-packed races this year have come from Tilke tracks. He really isn't that bad. Istanbul Park, for example, is a gem. Shanghai is also an amazing circuit, it's just so poorly attended.

With all due respect the action we have seen this season has more to do with the reg changes and not the Tilke tracks. I really enjoy all the tracks but the FIA or whoever need to ease up on the aero restrictions and get back to real racing.

I suppose it's a case of who will pay the most money to Bernie at the end of the day.If China still pays highly no matter how few go it will be set in stone.
The way the calendar is getting more widespread, it's very possible Hong Kong could be added as well as China.

The teams won't allow Bernie to add more and more races to the calendar; the teams are becoming all powerful; getting Bahrain removed from the calendar for a second time and having the engine regulations changed and delayed until 2014. Many team principles have spoken out against having extended seasons, without the teams, F1 is nothing!
