I'm sure you've been approached at some stage...multi level marketing gimmicks.

For those of you unfamiliar, its basically a corporation trying to sell its stuff through the recruitment of 'members' in the network, when you join the network, indirectly you're contributing to the revenue of the company aka, items have been 'sold'. From here, you establish your own 'pyramid' where your active 'downline recruits' would be making their own money, and in turn, contributing to your pot as well. I hear ridiculous claims of people, some of them friends, who are millionnaires in a year or two after graduation.

Thoughts? I'm between :bs: and  about MLM.

In general - I see it as of the time you say yes, the weight comes down on you and the onus is on you to then pass that onto others in order for you to 'start' doing well. Could work or could leave you with an expensive pile of S#%@ that you can't get rid of. I've never got involved, but that's the impression I've gotten from previous encounters.

Perhaps they're now better?

Yeah but one thing I find strange is that these rich guys are running around like dogs after midnight setting up appointments. Its almost like a cult, when you're in it you're fully IN it? And if you have that much money, why not just kickback and relax, do something else...the money is flowing in anyway.

I was approached few years back during uni and almost joined in though the product was stupid (anyone heard of Lamp Berger?), who gives for a damn lamp anyway.... and then last week approached again, good product (education related) but I don't know if I can give time for this. My day job is keeping me happy for now.

As far as I understand it (and I've never tried doing any MLM work) for most of the MLMs I've seen you don't have a stock to sell - you order in the stock for the customers you've found and then get a commission based upon the amount of sales you've done in the month. In terms of up front cash, I think most MLMs make you buy the catalogs plus I know the people who dump the catalogs through my door also print out loads of flyers to go with the brochures so it must cost them a fair bit in terms of plastic bags, paper and ink.

As Hammer278 said. the way to really make the money is to make other people work for you. If you look at the likes of Avon, Kleeneze etc, the ones who are making the money are not those who are delivering the leaflets and taking orders (particularly as I think many companies give you a territory - you can't choose where you want to leaflet).

I've noticed that a lot of people try our area once and then get bored so I won't get anything through the letterbox again for another 6 months or so. It strikes me as being far too much work for far too little return and it seems that around our area, most people agree ;)

It always amused me that in my old house, the Kleeneze rep had a car with a sign on the side saying "Want to make £2000/month part time? Call this number or visit the website". The car was a 15 year old rustbucket shed and I always thought it was the worst possible ad for trying to recuit people to his pyramid!
