No, public smoking does effect others. It's passive smoking. If your also going to ask, yeah I'd like to see tight controls on other pollutants in public too.

I didnt say it didnt i said its practically decreased ten-fold because you cant smoke in confined public spaces. Infact they dont let you do it in huge public places. In the UK this is.

You can always wear a gas mask out, then youll never breathe smoke in.

Oh right, I thought you were arguing against it.

Anyway, like I said, banning gun ownership doesn't mean people won't have guns.

I don't think people are suggesting making smoking illegal anyway.

Is there an actual rule, either FiA or EU that Ferrari are breaking? Surely they would be in deep shinola if they were? Can a rule or reg be quoted?

My view on smoking.....

Apparently, one in three people develop cancer in their lives.

As such i think the smoking cancer correlation is grossly inflated. Theres people living past 100 who smoke.

Of course there are, there are exceptions to every trend, but smoking and cancer is more than just a correlation, there's a lot of evidence that it is cause and effect.

exceptions.....what doesnt make sense is that all human being are the same, some short some tall, we all follow the same code, why are some people smoking and living past 100, and some getting throat cancer. I still think they overdo it. Im not a regular smoker either, only when s*itfaced and even then its usually jamaicas finest green accompanied by some pink floyd. Youve got more chance of getting killed in a car but nobody rides bikes everywhere.

Holy logical fallacy, Batman! Cars give us many benefits - so much so that most of us can't live our daily lives without them. Tobacco? Not so much.

We're discussing how detrimental cigarillo's really are? the benefits are obsolete.

Tobacco is also the most traditional way of socialising along with drinking. Is that all ive got you say? Well tell me what benefits gun laws in the US have, 30,000 die a year from them, the upsides? i cant think of any. Socialising perhaps, same with smoking.

wow. non-sequitur. You said, "Youve got more chance of getting killed in a car but nobody rides bikes everywhere." That's because a lot of us HAVE TO USE CARS. No one HAS to smoke. People are perfectly capable of socializing without smoking.

Guns are completely irrelevant to this discussion.

No they are not. A hobby, a form of socialising, guns, smoking. I cant see any pros of letting civilians muck about with semi-autos but its defended religously across the pond. Plus if we want to be technical we dont have to use cars, public transport would suffice, if not we take a cosy step back an age.

"People are perfectly capable of socializing without smoking." ;

People are perfectly able to socialise without drinking, people are perfectly able to socialise without going out the house, its a total non-issue, people smoke predominantly to socilaise, especially in the form of tobacco, people have been smoking tobacco for thousands of years, they still do, infact, im pretty sure its only ever a growing industry, and yet people are getting older and older, and living longer and longer......hmmm......... people should stop making out smoking is as fatal as a bullet to the head.

What you're doing here is building a "straw man" argument. You cannot defend tobacco, so you attack a position which no one has claimed: that somehow cars, alcohol, and guns are "worse" than tobacco. But those things have no correlation to the harmful effects that Tobacco has on people.

In today's society people are pretty much up to speed on what smoking is and what it does. From what I've seen...the people who smoke are the employees and the non smokers are management and owners. Almost across the board the line between smokers and non follows the line between educated and not, upwardly mobile and not....intelligent and not. Picking up a cigarette these days proves that you are not capable of looking into the future and planning for it.....and if you can't do something as simple as planning for your own health.....well....who in their right mind would hire you to run any part of their company?

John Lennon like a puff
Albert Einstein liked a puff
Sigmud Freund liked a puff
Issac Newton liked a puff
Thomas Edison liked a puff
The President of the United States, liked a puff.

But do please share your wisdom......

Upward mobility, education and intelligence have nothing to do with addiction. The difference with smoking is that no one is born a smoker, however there are genetics predispositions to certain addictions, alcohol being one of them. There are lots and lots of "upwardly mobile" people doing cocaine, enough to keep all the drug cartels in Columbia very busy.

I work in Finance, I wont say for which company, however the traders are all coke heads...

If the governments could make money without blood on their hands from ciggarettes, they would. It's only now the lawsuits are coming in thick and fast, smoking is becoming the government's dirty little habit.

Alcohol, now promoted in all movies and TV series watched by young people, is a much cleaner way for the governments to generate revenue, after all, a little bit of alcohol can be good for you... A little bit of smoking isn't...

I drink like a fish and smoke like a chimney, smokers pay their taxes, we will smoke outside if we want to, you can all f*ck off! :hehe:

If you had kids, would you introduce them to smoking and encourage them to also smoke like-a-chimney?

And the above are from today's day and age?

Unless ive missed out where its specified they shouldnt be then oops! lol

Seriously though, why am i the only one whos picked up on how much total and utter crap that is,

suggesting theres a correlation "across the board" in people that smoke being uneducated and people that dont being educated it the stupidest thing ive ever heard, not least because he has no evidence on which to base that on.

I agree! If anything the smarter someone is, the more likely that their job require the stress relief and relaxation that a cig offers. Furthermore, it is a great way of meeting new people, i dont smoke but i know plenty of people who have made lots of friends just by stepping out of the pub for a smoke.

No I wouldn't and yes I understand all the subliminal marketing still in mass media, the cool guy or hero normally smokes etc. It's very much out of my hands...
