Wow DD, I thought that I was the only one old enough to remember these oldies. I worked with John Cooper and did some work for Jack Brabham & Denny Hulme.
Ahh, those were the days, when drivers were proper men and finished races with dirty faces.

lotus were in it very very early if i remeber right. the last lotus was a black car. but they were one of the very influencial teams, wasnt it lotus with that bizzare wing??

Lotus was in f1? who is brabham was this f1 in the dark ages?

Lotus dominated F1 with their Lotus 47, which was known as the 'John Player Special' as the cigarette company was the main sponsor. The cars were beautiful in their day - black with gold graphics and wheels.
Jack Brabham, Australian living in England, world champ 1959, 60 & 66 I think. Had his own team and also produced other racing cars, they got into trouble with FIA when they produced an F1 car with a fan on the back to suck air out from under the car, it was very effective but was declared dangerous for other drivers, as the cars behind were constantly bombarded with bits of gravel and track debris which was sucked up by the fan and blown out of the back of the car into the faces of the drivers behind. I drove a Brabham BT8 'sports car' (cant remember what the class was called). Jack was a friendly guy who always made a point of talking to all other drivers etc. Usually had his Aussie mate Denny Hulme in tow. I think that Denny was world champ 1967. Another nice bloke. Here endeth todays history lesson.

thanks for the histroy lesson martin. when everybody starts talking about f1 pre 1996 then i get lost and cannot figure out what the topic is about!
