I've got to admit that I miss the old Lewis V Jenson thread from last year, although, recently, there has been a bit of the old passion from last year appearing in a few threads. I actually made a suggestion in the Team-mate Wars thread, but, it got me thinking, and here's what I came up with.

Jenson and Lewis are great driver, and McLaren are lucky to have both drivers with a WDC title in their team. Lewis won the points race last year, but Jenson is ahead in the race this year.

There is plenty of passion amongst their followers. So here's the challenge to the Lewis and Jenson fans.

Are you willing to go on record, here and now, in this thread backing your man to have more points after the last race this year?

The losers simply have to picture (or video) themselves in a public place, dressed in a pink ballet tutu (or something similarly embarrassing) holding a sign stating "[Lewis/Jenson] is the undisputed King at McLaren". They have to post the picture of themselves here in this thread within a week of the end of the last race this year (that means all must be posted before the 4 Dec 2011).

Any takers. Hammer, Bud, Racechick, WB, Jensonb???

I dont know about the tutu and picture...seems like a lot of trouble. How about simply changing the fingerprint for the entire 2012 "Lewis/Jenson is King and I am a Mutt who dared to go against the King". This should work nicely enough.

I've been on this since pre season, unfortunately the guys who keep swearing by Jenson's 'sheer talent' simply never entertain me. :crying:

Im a McLaren fan foremost. Im not fussed which one ends up having the most points. I would like to see either take the WDC and both help the team take the WCC. I do think Lewis is a little bit faster than Jenson and will end out ahead.

Jenson is only ahead in the points this year as of just the past few days here. From the first 2011 race in Australia on March 27 through to the start of the Canadian GP on June 12, Lewis was ahead of Button in the points. Button has only lead Hamilton for something like two and a half days so far. If Lewis can figure out how to dial back the aggression just enough to not wreck for a while, he should be back ahead of Jenson in a race or two. It took two consecutive lousy weekends for Lewis for Jenson to barely inch ahead of him. While it's technically true that "Jenson is ahead in the race this year", that statement carries a hidden suggestion that this has been the general trend for the year and it hasn't been at all since it's really just a very recent development.

I'm not wearing any tutu or any other nonsense, but I see no reason not to back Lewis. He normally outperforms Jenson except for when he suffers a bit of rotten luck (unfortunately, increasingly of his own making). Jenson benefits by being consistent, consistently getting the car to the finish, but he's also pretty consistently second-best. If Lewis can knock it off with the DNFs and penalties out the butt, he really should jump back ahead of Button where he has been all season so far.

No offence IceMan...but sometimes it sucks when the voice of reason kills the fun in a thread. :banghead:

How about we start with simply unlocking the Lewis V Jenson thread if everyone premises to really really really play nice?

I will say that I support Lewis simply because I love his no holds barred stayle of racing, whether it fits in today's sport or not. However me personally, if I drove competitively I'd drive like Jenson, with my head instead of with my heart, there is beauty in efficiency. I've said it since they became teammates McLaren has the best driver pairing on the grid, there is a perfect compliment of styles and balance that without a doubt allows either driver to win a race.

Lewis has been unbeaten by a teammate so no I wouldn't bet against him.

BTW Spanky, I can think of a lot more embarrassing things I can wear in public than a pink tutu....

I like the rivalry. Mainly because it's at a high level. Last yr they both were on a very good level of driving and I think it has been the best pairing for the past 2 yrs.

This yr they seem a bit more uneasy, that's probably because the tires and style of new F1 is taking some time to get used to for everyone. Except Vettel. But towards the end of the season i'm sure they'll both be driving at a very good standard.

But... to say who will come out on top is very difficult. I think Jenson, but its very hard to tell. Lewis is better at Q, and is sometimes faster... but that isnt everything and it shows.

Jenson is a driver you can always take for an example, or, how it could be writen in books. So smooth, careful, really something you can call a good driver of Formula 1 car.

Lewis is totally the oposite. On track and off track. That's what makes them function together.

Personally, I like Button more. He leaves a special impression on you in every of his interview. But, we'll just wait and see what could this season bring us. Maybe Button stays ahead of Lewis, or, Lewis can drive a couple of fantastic races in a row. It's Formula 1. You can NEVER exactly know what's going to happen. And that is why we all like it.

Lewis has Jense covered in every single way.At the end of the year Lewis WILL be ahead even if it's by a point.Lewis' problem is Vettel not Jense hence all the mistakes.
Last 12 race results for Vettel:

2
1
dnf (mech)
1
1
1
1
2
1
1
1
2

That's what's getting to Lewis' head.

I don't think there is a "rivarly" I don't think they are out to get each other and whatever other drama people come up with. These two respect each other highly and the incident on sunday was not on purpose. They learn from each other and because of their high class attitudes they know they win more by being together than against.

Really??

That's what's getting to Lewis' head.

How do you know its not problems with his girlfriend?

They learn from each other and because of their high class attitudes they know they win more by being together than against.

How do you know they do learn from each other? how do you know its not one of them learning from the other and the other not being jealous when the other wins??? and how do you know they are in that frame of mind ("knowing they win more by being together than against")??

Clear examples of wishful thinking made to look as facts.

Yes Really!!! During their stint so far Lewis has finished 75% of the time in front of Jense, and JB has yet to win a normal/dry race at Mac.
You'll see from Silverstone on how Jenson will fade.

Based on this have you completely given up on Massa and implying Nando is on his own? :hehe:

More McLaren PR or a real statement by Jenson Button?
Jenson Button has moved to defend the driving style of McLaren team-mate Lewis Hamilton, with the duo having collided in Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix. Whereas the 2009 Champion went on to enjoy his first victory of the season, the two-time Montreal winner was forced to retire from the race on Lap 8.

At the end of the seventh tour, Button moved to take the racing line on the start/finish straight as Hamilton attacked on the same part of race track; the consequent contact saw the latter tag the pit wall, damaging his left-rear wheel and suspension. The coming together was later deemed a racing incident by FIA stewards.

“Lewis is in the headlines a lot - and a lot of it is because he’s bloody good,” Button is quoted as saying by the Press Association. “He's a racer, a fighter and for me that’s the reason why I wanted to be here, against and with a driver that is super talented - one of the best drivers Formula 1 has ever seen.

“It's good challenging him on the circuit. We have a lot of respect for each other, we've raced each other a lot this year, and last year, and we've never touched. We've always given each other room – for me, that's a great position to be in.”

Button went on to respond to triple World Champion Niki Lauda who, following Sunday’s race, claimed that Hamilton ‘will kill somebody’ if maintaining his approach.

“I don't agree with what Niki has said,” Button continued. “I just think his driving style is aggressive and he always goes for gaps - sometimes he's right, sometimes he's not, but it's the same for all of us. He just finds himself in that situation more often than others.

“Obviously I'm very sorry I collided with Lewis. We spoke about it and it's one of those things. I didn't know he was there. He went for a move and we collided, which is sad for both of us. Initially it played on my mind because you never want to crash with your team-mate, it's the worst thing you can do.

“But we spoke about it and he was very good, actually. He was one of the first people to congratulate me after the race, which was really nice to see.”
