so... who's going to come in 2nd??

they dont like overtaking remember!

:rolleyes::yawn:

The do like it... they just expect drivers to actually learn how to do it on the track, with other cars :P

We're talking the best drivers in the world here, and four of them world champions, and you reckon they need teaching how to overtake? Yeah right :rolleyes:

Excellent pics! Way better than anything I ever end up with. I get a blur that could be any car on the grid. Enjoy!

You just need a fast shutter speed (and plenty of light) to capture fast moving objects, automatic settings on digicams often getting the shutter speed wrong hence the blur because the shutter is open longer than is actually needed... If I do go to the Austin GP as I hope to; I'll be taking my digital SLR to try to get some good shots, never tried motorsports photography before!

And yes, very nice photos WB; just as shame that your view was a little obscured by trees and fences in some of the shots, what camera are you using?

Toss up whether to put this one in the photography section or here in the Canada thread. They're only roughly cropped, I haven't had time to do much, hope you guys enjoy them. Watching a GP live is LOUD!

:thumbup: Way to go. Great pics!! keep em coming.

I mean... that the stewards expect the drivers to already KNOW how to overtake before they try it on the track with other cars....................

Great shots WB, really like them. Hope you have a great time there, which I'm sure you will.

Just on taking action shots, if you don't have the shutter speed, or controls over it, then panning with the moving car will help you get clear shots at your lower shutter speeds :-)

Thanks guys, I'm having a blast. It's amazing how easily it is to strike up a conversation when there's so many fans around, Canada really supports this GP. Driving into Montreal I saw 3 different billboards promoting it. I was shocked that the grand stands were nearly full even for P1! Unlike the US where anyplace you go that draws a crowd they're checking your bags on the way in, here people are allowed to bring coolers and even alcohol into the venue, which is cool because at 9 dollars for a large beer and 5 dollars for a hot dog, it can get pricey.

About the obscured pics, it's easier said than done finding a clean place where you can get unobstructed views. There's hundreds of photographers all fighting for the smallest of real estate. I swear they go out of their way to put trees int he worst spots for general admission viewers on purpose. I'm on grandstand 21 which is giving me the ability to zoom in close to get nice detail but then the pictures become static since I really cant move around much. The one with the obstructions are down by the hairpin with a lot of cars locking up! Both Toro Rossos were locking up there nearly every other lap. Tomorrow I'll walk around the track a bit more and see if I can get something interesting by the wall of champions... which :hehe: incidentally got another in practice.

I really liked the panel the corner worker was using to set the electronic flags... it's stuff like that, we never get to see! I'm using a Nikon D90 with a handful of lenses but the one I used 80% of the time was a 70~300 which is relatively fast (not pro spec) and got me close enough and most of all has an S focus motor so it's very fast to focus which I'm finding out is pretty critical as those buggers are fast to get up to speed after the hairpin!

BTW, it's so easy to tell who's in trouble going into the hairpin, you just see about 2 or 3 seconds beforehand which ones are going to have a hard time around it. Take care all, and I'll post some more shots from tomorrow's outing.

I don't see why they can't adjust the points to the current system before they give that record to someone else. Heck, Schumacher might not even have it if they did.
