Wait a minute... There's still people defending Lewis??

I'm not defending him, just saying that all drivers are capable of doing something like that out of frustration or whatever and don't see what all the fuss is about.

ooops, i wasnt referring to you!
What you posted makes perfect sense. One thing is to deny he did anything wrong. And another thing completely is to acknowledge he did, but then again, that's the nature of racing, and many others make these sort of mistakes as well.

Is it cos am Scottish, ya bass.

[vaptin]

Why do we care about people's lives off track? The comments that Lewis has made post race can show anything from frustration to a lack of maturity to him just acting like a spoiled doofus, and love him or hate him no one's mind will change about him because or in spite of his comments. To complain about an apology is ridiculous though.

The sport has been filled with love/hate character types. Vettel through absolutely no fault of his own is disliked by many for what? Because he's had a successful career? Because of his finger? Because of what really? We can appreciate a driver much more because of their work outside of the sport or because of other factors in their lives that they've had to overcome, but in the end we watch for what their performance on track is not for what they do in their personal lives.

In the world of twitter, you tube and facebook everything is amplified and permanently recorded from a dozen points of view. Honestly would Senna or Hunt or any other polarizing driver like that be anywhere near their status in today's all media consuming world? I like Lewis Hamilton's driving style, I don't like his beard, or some of his post race comments, and interviews, but I'm not here raising my blood pressure over them, I've got yard work to do and conference calls to host.

I've seen arguments on this forum about Alonso's vacation plans going awry... come on, really? I know I'm not going to change anyone's mind here, but at least I can point out the absurdity of some of the arguments we perpetuate.

Try to have a nice day back at work or school everyone.

How is this about his actions off track?

How will peoples opinions not be formed because of his comments? You just seem to be trying to go with the "haters will hate line", believe it or not, some of us make up our mind based on stuff he actually does.

You really don't think reactions on here would have been different had Hamilton immediately apologised after the race? Or at least refrained from blaming the other drivers?

What I'm specifically complaining about now, is this pattern of Hamilton moaning, then having to apologise afterwards, its kinda hard to accept an apology (think it sincere) when events repeat themselves. An apology to me, means he will try to not do it again.

And believe it or not, that in the red car is calling for Lewis to get more 'penalties' as its the only way he will 'learn'. What a ********.

I agree with him getting more penalties. He was penalised twice under the same rule, he should've received a harsher penalty the second time.

So you're bitching about his moaning?

Have you ever lied more than once? stolen once? cheated once? received a traffic ticket once? I'm just saying.

None of that changes the morals of the situation.

I dont think Lewis would have been penalised if Massa didnt crash in the tunnel....

There is no way the stewards couldn't have punished him after they did DiResta for almost the same thing earlier in the race. Regardless of Massa's crash out he was going to be penalized. I don't think he should have been punished, nor should Diresta. The stewards should remind themselves that making passes takes a bit of luck along with all the skill in the world. If we want passing, stop penalizing people for racing incidents. I think the rule (Causing an avoidable accident) is there for someone going out hunting for someone, not the kind of things it has been applied to the last couple years.

In the immortal words of Robert Duvall "No, no, he didn't slam you, he didn't bump you, he didn't nudge you... he *rubbed* you. And rubbin, son, is racin'."

Common sense..................................finally.

We don't watch Lewis because of his interviews WE LOVE HIS RACING
I wish he didn't have to appologise at all and tell all his haters F@*& YOU,but he has sponsors responsibilities so.

Massa and Pasta are both <EDITED FOR CONTENT> and thats why they wont be in F1 long and Lewis will for another 10-15 years.

I agree with WB. I hate to post the same quote twice within a week or two, but it fits here:

"When you’re racing, it... it’s life. Anything that happens before or after... is just waiting."

Take what drivers say with a grain of salt. Especially after a race, and even more especially after a race and qualifying that did not go well for them. I wonder how gossip girls would react if we could hear everything they say in the cockpit!

I truely feel bad for Hamilton, i sat with some buddies and we watched slow motions of incidents in which he was involved, and it is 100% obvious that he is not to blame for the Maldonado incident, Maldonado should be punished for it, maybe the massa incident is partly, hamilton's fault.
Further more there is a sense of growing feeling that folks at f1 don't want Hamilton to win the championship, Even folks in his own team don't want to him win!!
If you check out the last minutes of the previous race in spain you'll see that they were calling Hamiltion from the box while he was sitting on vettel's tail, and everytime they called him he lost 0.2-0.3 tenths of a second, in all it was done 4 times (over 1 second lost), it was just un-accounted for, and this happend when the race was about to come to an end, i know it might sound like some kind of conspiracy theory but these facts + facts that were mentioned by hamilton himself, I am talking about his accusations against Torro Rosso just lead to unpleaseing conclusions, actually there is more and i have noticed other incidents in which hamilton got a "raw deal" in previous races, it's like many folks out there in the f1 are set up to help vettel win another championship, I don't know if it is a racial issue, or the germans just want to feel/show that they are better than evreyone else, maybe it's all about money and politics, but i just wish hamilton take better care of himself and becareful, i am sure that after his latest comment some folks in the f1 are going to be kind of pissed off and hamilton might have to go through a tough period.
p.s. i am not a hamilton or McLaren fan, but i do think that vettel is over-rated, he is driving a supirior car (legal or not) and is being assisted by various parties.
I am not trying to cause a provocation toward vettel's fans, this is just my opinion and i'm just putting in my two cents.

Since this is the topic that won't die, I've merged it here to the Monaco thread since, what more can be said that hasn't been said in 50 pages? We'll find out. Enjoy. WB

I am a fan of Lewis, but I fail to see the logic in your post. Lewis had a crappy weekend, that is all.

[horsepower]

i'm neither a vettel or hamilton fan.

the thing with hammy is that alot of the time he's looking for a way to pass the book. as soon as his driving looks like it could go down there is always an excuse that is then turned over by his team. i've also watched the slow-mo's and don't see that hammy has been treated unjust at all. he drove like a spoilt child from the start of the race and that's all there is to it.

his 'black' comment was just uncalled for and poor form. he got his wrists rightly slapped and he should suck it up like a man instead of spitting his dummy out like a brat.

He should spend more time training and driving, and less time coming up with excuses.

Remember this, it was great to watch and maybe a bit ott but it seems the current rules and stewards decisions want to stifle racing like this.

That is a great video to watch and shows how racing should happen, extremely aggressive driving but hey what do you know no one got seriously hurt because they gave each other room.

Now days if anyone even comes close to that level of aggressive driving they get a penalty which is a shame because its robbing the fans of exciting racing, and if the stewards continue to hand out penalties for minor incidents than the drivers are going to become even more careful with how aggressive they are.

Sad state F1 is becoming.

He was slated for options on his first stop but the RBR drivers had "talked over" each other on the radio so the pit crew failed to receive notice Vettel was inbound. Rather than waste more time sorting out the tyre selection, they simply slapped on the primes they had readied for Webber.

I stand corrected. I reviewed the video and I was mistaken. I thought I remembered seeing a red lettered tyre when Vettel was in the pits but it's during Webber's stop that the options are visible. Their stops were so close, I'd thought I was seeing a replay of Vettel's stop when it actually was Webber's.

Which means RBR were gambling they could get 60 laps out of a set of primes. That's beyond audacious, that's positively foolhardy.

James Allen quotes Chris Horner to say the options were put on Vettel's car by mistake. I have not seen that quote reported elsewhere but he normally is pretty reliable.

Will Buxton reported that the RBR pit crew were all at sixes and sevens as soon as Webber had got out of the box. Well-oiled machine that they are, this would also seem to indicate something during the stop had gone awry (apart from Webber's slow stop).

Ive actually made a total U-turn from what i first thought, having just watched the incidents over again.

Massa did turn in too early. Maldonado did turn into Hamilton. His comments were what we long for in drivers, and now hes being charged over them.

Forget everything ive said about Hamilton he was totally innocent that race, and the fact he finished higher then he started is almost justice served for such idiot decisions. The only thing about his interview was the black thing, shouldnt of done that.
