Vettel's victory in Monaco on Sunday, his first in the principality, was his fifth in six grands prix so far this season. Only Jim Clark, Nigel Mansell, Schumacher and Jenson Button have achieved that and all of them ended the season in question as champions.

What does everyone else think?

Mathematically not yet, but soon. Morally, hell yeah. Webber is hopeless this year, McLaren doesn't have enough and Ferrari is off thinking about next year's car.

I'd say that the probability of a Vettel championship is over 90%, possibly even over 95%.

We can be glad that the races are still exciting, this year is a write-off for anyone but Vettel.

Sure mathmatically others can still win, but whats the thread title, effectively. Effectively everyone else should take a 19 month holiday till 2013, cause this is going to carry into next year too.

I'm going to wait until the next few races are over before making my mind up on this one. Simply because of the race pace of RBR compared to their quali.

Odd. Because people do crash and break their legs. And it could happen even in the next race. It's not like we're saying that the only way he could lose is if aliens invaded the track and kidnapped him.

If SV dropped out of the season next month, then anyone regularly getting on random podium positions would be scoring an average of 19.33 points per race, and SV would fairly rapidly be caught and overtaken.

I'll be giving it until after Silverstone. The next two races are key for me. Seb gets a win or a couple of podiums and it will be over in my mind anyway.

We're not even near halfway point! Redbull have had a fantastic start, thats it. 5 races now? Or 6? Its fairly clear the only guy who can challenge Vettel is Lewis, he's got the car (race pace) and the speed. If McLaren can push their developments a bit more and get their car on par in race pace or better (I think its there, thereabouts), this season is by no means a writeoff. A win for Lewis in Canada, and DNF for Vettel will already spark some serious hope.

Here's to Montreal, come on McLaren!!! Time to wake the f*** up!

Lewis is the only one who can challenge Vettel?? I believe you said that last year as well, and Ferrari managed to challenge quite effectively. They are behind on Aero, no doubt about that but new packages show up all the time. This past race, as I recall....it wasn't Lewis doing the challenging....and Vettel was plenty challenged.

I agree with you on the rest of it though. We're not halfway yet....so it's far from over. With that said however....the fat lady is warming up.

To be honest billin, I was glad to see Alonso making Seb earn it. I was almost rooting more for him than Jenson as the guy was putting some effort in trying for the lead unlike Mr Cruise and Collect behind him. I'm still having trouble believing what I felt.

If Ferrari can make a jump and give some headache to Redbull, more the merrier. Lewis could use other competitors to slow down the runaway German bull.

I think, personally, I'll wait until the FIA verdict on the blown diffusers. But it's honestly looking like Vettel is going to be very hard to beat this year, especially if his nearest rivals keep having issues.

The same was the case with the old points system.

Well, maybe the 10-6-4-3-2-1 used until 2003, but the 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 system, used from 2003 until 2009, meant that first and second in a race were only separated by 2 points. A driver couldn't build up much of a lead, and therefore couldn't loose it swiftly either. Now 7 points separate first and second place, there's more to gain and loose.
