Jenson leaving the door open for a swap to Ferrari.

Can't see this happening, but imagine the turmoil some forum members here would be put through if it happened :hehe:

Jenson Button has left the door open for a surprise move to Ferrari, saying he has always wanted to drive for the most famous team in Formula One.

As he prepared for Sunday's Monaco Grand Prix, the McLaren driver said: "As a kid you are very excited about racing for the red team. There were three teams I always wanted to race for when I was growing up, Ferrari, McLaren and Williams. I've got to drive for two of them, which is great, which as an eight-year old kid I didn't expect to do.

"Ferrari is obviously a team I haven't raced for. I've won the world championship and I would love to win the world championship again."

Ferrari, unhappy about Felipe Massa's diminishing returns, were rumoured to be preparing a move for Renault's Robert Kubica before the gifted Polish driver was seriously injured in a rallying accident earlier this year.

Button, 31, won the world title in 2009.He is known to be happy at McLaren and the feeling is reciprocated. He said last month: "I'm really enjoying my time here. I can't see any reason to be anywhere else." But he said on Friday: "I don't even know what I'm doing tomorrow. I don't plan too far ahead."

When asked whether he was worried about driving with Fernando Alonso, Button added: "It's not team-mates I'm afraid of, at all. I love the challenge of team-mates. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses and it's interesting to work them out. But I don't know what will happen in the future."

:rolleyes: Yes, he mentions a i child hood dream and now all he sees is $$$$.

If that's what you took out of this, you don't seem to know this guy very well. I see him stayin with mclaren until he retires he stays with teams for a quite a while and there would be no reason to leave mclaren, good money, good cars, good people, good teammate.

Sounds more like a whimsical commentary on how legendary Scuderia Ferrari is rather than proposing legitimate circumstances where Jenson might end up there. Ferrari's committed to Massa through next year, which puts Jenson at 32/33...

Maybe he contract is up for renewal and he is reminding Martin Whitmarsh that there is other places he could go who will pay him top dollar.

The vibes I've been getting from him recently is that he'll see out the remainder of his career with McLaren.

They are the best driver pairing on the grid, and Jenson's comments show that he has his style and will not shy away from any driver. Not many WDC would go to a team that they'd come up second string in, and I give Jenson a ton of credit for believing that he can find and exploit a weakness in anyone, he's a smart driver and has a consistent racing philosophy. Personally I wouldn't blame the guy if he left because he was being offered 5 or 10 million dollars more a year and completing his childhood hat trick.

I can't see even the evil red team shelling out that kind of coin for Button. While he may believe he can exploit some sort of weakness in Alonso, I find it unlikely that he has the skills to do so nor do I believe even a team with the deep pockets of Ferrari would overpay for basically Massa's less whiney equal. Though I do like Button and deperately wish he could find the skills to challenge his teammate.....I think he should at least show that ability before biting off the even larger mouthful that is Alonso and the Ferrari team.

And that's not even discussing Button's very public stand on team orders....for which Ferrari would castrate him.

If JB truly believes he stands a dog's chance of being hired by Ferrari, I fear he may fail his next drug test.

What would be the problem with Jenson going to Ferrari? It wouldn't be the most adventurous option for Ferrari, but Jenson is a fine driver.

Because "fine" in Italian means "end", and that's exactly where JB's career is, nearing its end. Apart the one fluke season, JB has had quite the middling F1 career, and Ferrari already is full-up on middle-age drivers (by F1 standards) whose Prancing Stallion can't catch a Red Bull.
