i know you meant next year. So you're saying all teams have exhaust in the exact same place? Sounds rather boring.

They have to have their wings in the exact same place, the width of the car list can go on :P

This way at least for Renault, wont affect their engine reliability.

true. still, one less creative element involved.

Seems if teams get too creative it gets banned by the FIA anyway. Case in point.

F1 need a substitute for wing-generated downforce but the teams do not want to return to ground effects. The sport needs less restrictive car construction rules, not more. Exhaust overrun through an EBD should make everyone happy.

Auto Motor und Sport speculates that banning the exhaust overrun would clip RBR's wings. My hunch is that Adrian Newey has another kettle on the boil, waiting for that very possibility.

I think there is more to Redbull speed than just the exhaust

You mean it's not just the farting, but also some burping? :hehe:

Yeah. People are misguidedly assuming this ban will completely cripple Red Bull. No one has any way of knowing that without the actual figures showing the effect of the car losing that technology, so we can only wait and see. That article is pure speculation. I mean, i could write that it'll mean Red Bull would be even further ahead and it'll adversely affect the other teams far more, and there'd be no basis to argue against it.

I doubt that the loss would be less to Red Bull than to other teams, after all you know Newey is likely getting more bang out of the exhaust than other teams given where the Red Bull is. Perhaps they may feel it most in qualifying. Who knows though, but regardless of where things wind up, I think more teams will gain relative to the Red Bulls than will lose. I just think they should leave it be and address it for next year's rules as they did with the F-duct.

But the point is, how do you actually know any of that. You don't... it's all assumption, with no real basis.

As for qualifying, my own assumption is that DRS is a far, far bigger factor given the nature it's usage in qualifying and the race and how Red Bull's pace has compared in those sessions.

Has there been any word on whether this ban will happen this season and if so, when will it happen?

On a sidenote; why not just let the teams run an EBD as their engineers will just find another way to achieve the same effect; when will the FIA learn that every time they try to stifle development; engineers just find more and more more inventive ways to circumvent their sanctions, bottom line is that the top engineers are more clever than the FIA.

The FIA has been trying to slow the cars down for many many year's but a new track record is set the very next year.

The engineers will have to do something special to beat lap records after the 2013 regulations kick in; assuming that the FIA stick to their guns with their four cylinder turbo engines!
