I make things out of stone. As for the monkey part, well that's all we are to our employers.

Occasionally. Mostly it's fairly mundane stuff like surface finishes for building repairs, sometimes more intricate work on buildings like churches which is good. I'm wanting to do more stuff for myself if I can get the time.

Where im working a the moment stonemonkey is doing plaster work, which although different material is very similiar to what your doing, essentially patterned designs for buildings etc.

Get to work in some NICE houses, working on New Bond Street in London at the moment, right next door to Sothebys art gallery.

wow, is that carved or molded??
I mean do you use some kind of grout in a mold or are you actually carving the stone? it seems like its molded...

All carved, the stone's supplied as 'sawn 6 sides' meaning after it's blasted out the ground it's put through big saws and cut into rectangular blocks whatever size we need. Then it's all chisels and grinders.

Thankyou. Usually with dressed stone it gets polished (with another stone and water) to get rid of the tool marks, the rose and the finial were polished but the big carving was left off the chisel. I have some more pics showing the sequence of work on one of the stones, if you're interested I'll post them.
