The DRS-meister should pwn pole at Monaco. Based on what he did in Turn 8 at Hungary, and exiting 16 at Catalunya, I foresee him opening his DRS before he's completely exited from Portier. I suspect all else -- save maybe Webber -- will have to wait until they've reached the bend in the tunnel to open theirs. And probably thru Beau Rivage, too. The Red Bulls also should own the multiple tight corners at either end of the circuit.

Last year's results show both Webber and the Red Bull chassis are quite keen on Monaco. But unless Mark can match Vettel's courage with the DRS, I don't see him in P1 this time. In any case, so long as Seb and Webb can stay out of the Armco, they should lock out the front row.

Amen

But isn't it pretty widely-accepted that McLaren and Ferrari are a match for (if not, ahead of) RBR in low-speed corners? Especially judging from Lewis's pursuit of Seb in the final 10 or 12 laps on Sunday. Should bode well for closer qualifying and very interesting race at Monaco.

Guys we are forgetting HRT, they don't rely on Aero at all so the slow speeds are ideal for them to shine

A bit harsh :D

... and then someone goes and forgets to take a bright orange engine cooler cover off. I'm sitting back kicking up my heels and enjoying the show.

The last couple of races have seen record numbers of pit stops due to the (deliberate) Pirelli tyre degradation and has made for a very tactical approach to racing. Christian Horner mentioned they were even considering 5 stops a possibility in Barcelona. With the well known difficulty of overtaking in Monaco, there must be a good chance of an unusual result this weekend. Jenson must be hoping he can continue his recent trend of using one less set of tyres than his competitors.......

Ouch!

Please somebody get the weather forecast for the Monte Carlo race!

On the F1 site says Sunny, but Horner has said that it could be a rainy weather... Who knows... Anyway, we all know Webber is the one to hit the walls on rain! ;)

And vettel runs into button in the rain!! gotta get my jabs in where i can cuz mark isn't giving me much room for it this year :banghead:

McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh is confident his cars will be well suited to the unique demands of Monaco and is expecting a competitive race weekend.

The street circuit is like no other on the calendar and a quick lap time is less dependent on efficient downforce. Whitmarsh says the McLaren MP4-26 has already proved to be quick on tight sections of circuit and should be in the mix for victory this weekend.

"McLaren has an enviable record around the streets of the principality - we've won the race on 15 occasions which is more than any other team - and we go into next weekend aiming to make it 16," he said. "Our Barcelona race pace, in particular our sector three times, looked very respectable indeed last weekend - and hopefully that will give us a good idea of what to expect at Monaco, because it's a slow, stop-start section of the track. I think one of the strengths of the MP4-26 is its low-speed grip and traction, so I think we should be in good shape from the start of the weekend."

One advantage McLaren has had over its rivals Red Bull in the opening race of the season is its reliable and efficient KERS system. There had been some speculation that teams might not run KERS in Monaco due to the added complexities on a circuit where there are few long straights, but Jenson Button believes it will work to McLaren's advantage.

"There's been some suggestion that KERS Hybrid might not provide a useful lap time benefit around Monaco, because you might think you couldn't really exploit it to give you a boost onto a straight," he said. "But our simulations suggest that it's worth as much at Monaco as it is pretty much anywhere else, which is another positive because I think that the Mercedes-Benz unit is the best in Formula One."

I believe McLaren can get pole here. 2 reasons:
1) The tyres are very difficult to heat up as the speeds are generally low around MOnaco, so Redbull won't be able to extract the best out of them, unless they go for a 4 lap run instead of 3.
2) McLaren proved to be faster through the twisty parts of Spain, and as Martin said he fully expects them to utilise that strength in Monaco

For the race I expect McLaren to be stronger thanks to KERS. Even at high speed, Redbull couldn't use KERS the whole time in Spain which only points to overheating issues. In Monaco, they are going to use it even less....if they had cooling problems in Spain might as well shut that thing off after the first 3 laps.

Toss out between Lewis and Sebastian again, these two are the most daring when it comes to utilising the DRS.

Scratch that, the FIA has just banned the use of DRS in the Monaco tunnel. So it can be used on the main straight then?

Banned.

For safety reasons.

Ridiculous! They're all claiming it's unsafe because they know they can't match Vettel's speed through the tunnel without DRS.

It's not because the corner is too dangerous, it's because you're driving too fast. If the other driver can negotiate it faster, maybe it's because he's the better driver. Or has the better car. Or both. Someone always will be the faster through a given corner. It's not about safety, it's called racing!

Disagree i think it could be very dangerous.i would guess that the car is pretty on the limit coming round the corner through the tunnel as it is.There is not much of a straight there to make use of DRS anyway. Also the track is so narrow all you have to do is park your car in the middle of the track and no one can get by anyway.

Then slow down. Danger averted.

Next question?

Haha, I knew it's going to be an interessting race! A part of tarmac is damaged, in the turn 1, a fire broke loose while they were trying to fix it... The new tarmac won't be ready 'till tomorrow night, and, considering practices on thursday, everything is possible!!!:clap::clap:
