I have just sold my Robin Hood 2B, as she was not getting the attention she required so instead looking at getting a Land Rover Freelander, anyone had one or have any opinion about them. It will be a Series 1 and Diesel (the K series and the V6 engined ones are not going to get a look in)

My dad has one and has had for about six years. It lost a lot of money ,thats why he still has it.Better to run it into the ground now.But apart from that he hasn't had many problems at all.Apart from when he filled it up with petrol once :hehe: (yes it is a diesel) :hehe:
The only down side is the steering lock is pretty woeful.Getting in and out of car parks and spaces takes an extra shunt or two,but only a small thing i like driving it.

A lot of people go on about the bad reliability but everyone I know who has had one said they are reliable apart from the K Series engine.

I worry about your use of the word 'shunt'.

I've heard that as well ,but can only speak from personal experience. His has done nearly 80k,had it from new it goes on and off road with no major problems.

I've no experience in the Freelander other than to lump them into the cute ute as they're labeled here in the states. But there was clearly a demise to the Land Rover popularity here and it was single handedly caused by the abysmal reliability of the Discovery. So it's hard for me to trust a car brand that that can create something that bad, without a lot of year of brand rebuilding.

I had a look at one in a dealer yesterday this is how the conversation went :-

Salesman "So what you think?"
Me "It is a bit tatty, especially for the price!"
Salesman "We can move a bit on the price."
Me "Parkers car guild says the car is worth half what you have it up for sale"
Salesman "Parkers don't sell cars though do they"
Me "No, but the internet is littered with cars at the price of Parkers"
Salesman "But you spend the extra money on the fuel getting there"
Me "OK so I need to find a car that is within £2,000 worth of fuel then?"
Salesman "But they willl not be of such high quality"
Me "your car is tatty, dirty, and the Sunroof does not work, or the rear window close properly, and it smokes on tick over"
Salesman "bye"

At what price would have you bought it?

he was asking £3400

Parkers says a good one is worth about £1900.
