@ Everyone that put a list of their favorite band... if you had to choose just one, which and why. I could have put a top ten list, but I was hoping to get a little personal feedback as to why people liked the band they chose. Reach a little people.

Iron Maiden is my clear favourite as the number of plays suggest! I like Iron Maiden because they write original material; I believe they have only done one cover, Doctor, Doctor by UFO. I love the Axis of guitars creating a rich, warm and technical sound. Their songs tend to be epics, creating variance of pace and styles, see Phantom of the Opera (below), their music must be good as they have lasted the test of time, over 30 years now and still going strong although their latest album is by far the poorest from them but still better than modern pop rock acts!

Music and F1, my two favourite things :cloud9: , and alchohol sorry, thats my three favourite things.

Im not like a lot of people that can have one favourite band, or others that have for instance a 1.0 ratio of artists to songs on their ipods/computers.
I follow bands rather then songs, if your song is really good but a one-hit-wonder, i dont bother putting it on my ipod.

You asked for me favourite but i couldnt possibly be happy with my post naming just one and leaving it at that. I go by the HolySevenSagesofMusic:

Led Zeppelin
The Beatles
Pink Floyd
The Who
The Rolling Stones
The Smiths
Simon and Garfunkel

Apart from Led Zeppelin, who will always be the first of the sages that got me into that sort of music, and the undisputed best band ever (theres your thread question answer WB) the others are entirely interchangeable.

Then come the bands that have plenty of songs on my ipodand i love them almost as much as the seven, they just missed out slightly in one apect or another, these below are also entirely interchangeable( in no order)

David Bowie
Eric Clapton/Cream
Jimi Hendrix (Experience)
Bloc Party (The only modern band still going that deserve LEGENDARY status once theyve finished, they can make pure rock, pure pink floyd like trance music, with not only musical talent, but supremely written lyrics. Most bands have either neither or only one)
The Clash
The Doors
Guns N Roses
Frank Sinatra
Kate Bush
Prince
Queen
R.E.M
Santana
Van Halen
ABBA
The Beach Boys

Sorry for the long post but music is the foundation of my life, hence long words were needed to fully express myself

^^ Well thank you kindly, and I do have to say that is probably your most colorful post ever. I'm going to check out Bloc Party as I'm not familiar with their stuff.

Dont listen to Ares, Mercury or Flux, they are 3 duds, the only three duds. Listen to compliments.

Bloc party is really good. They are somewhat "inconsistent", meaning their record s could easily have several poor songs in em... but they have some really great.

Oh.. there's one missing!! but dont worry, maybe you're very young :hehe: once you discover it you'll forget about music... and booze..... some people have even changed religions! but maybe not f1. :hehe:

you mean umpalumpa right? lol, true, not really an expansive subject though really. Neither is booze but that was in jest.

Actually, its booze that gets you laid  Ok we'll leave it at three.

Queen, without a doubt (only their pre-Paul Rodgers stuff though). I love their range of music - there's always something to listen to no matter what mood you are in.

Although I think I am getting old as I'm listening to loads of classical music these days (and movie soundtracks by Hans Zimmer ;) )

HA! You're not getting old, you've just matured... if you were really old, you'd be hopelessly trying to recapture youth in some pseudo midlife crisis trying to buy a sports car and listening to new music on college stations.

Queen is definitely up there for me. Freddie Mercury was the best male vocalist there's ever been.

The AS syndrome

I did precede that statement with "for me" pretend the period after it is a comma.

Old thread revival time.

Out of all the bands I listen too regularly I'd have to go for the Manic Street Preachers. Post 1995 they've been a bit hit and miss but before then they were a lot better. The Holy Bible is one of the best albums ever. Good guitar riffs and solos and lyrics with real meaning. So much better some trashy pop song aboutappearing on Britains got x-factor or some rapper telling us he's got 99 problems but his female dog isn't one of them.

Bands like Queen, New Order/Joy Division, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Green Day, The Datsuns, The Clash are pretty popular with me as well.

All of this.

I was listening to that iTunes Roundhouse gig yesterday and it's fantastic. The new songs are pretty dodgy live though. Some Kind of Nothingness seems a bit empty or something. It's great to see that, no matter how many times they play songs like Motown Junk they're still blasting them out with real passion. Great lads.

Edit - Also, yeah, after 1995 they are pretty hit and miss. For some reason I really love Lifeblood though!
