Vettel was ALWAYS going to win 2010, webber is the only one who we can say through it away, cause he really did. Led most of the year, suffered hardly any mechanical failures but made rookie errors.

I see a warm friendship between you and Coronis blossoming :P:twisted:

A Red Bull fan from Australia? He might aswell be the anti-christ to a Briton supporting Hamilton.

Jenson Button had the balls to go drive for McLaren for a reason. The only way to measure yourself against another driver is in the same car, and Jenson deserves a hell of a lot of credit for that. Perhaps some day the F1 gods will bring together Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel in the same team?

I'd love to see them together at RB, only after Mark has retired of course :P
Seriously though, Hamilton and Vettel in the same team would be amazing

I'm confused in regards to the number of times Vettel 'blew' it last season. The only incident which sticks out for me is his move on Jenson in Spa.

In Turkey, it was more of a 50-50, Vettel moving over, and Webber giving him a ridiculous ammount of (no) space going into a 60km/h corner from speeds of over 330km/h.

Where else did Vettel mess up? Australia? His brakes failed. Bahrain? His engine malfunctioned. Silverstone? He had a contact with Lewis' front wing (Vettel was ahead) which caused a puncture, that happens to anyone.

His performance this year doesn't surprise me much. The car is just a lot more solid compared to last year, and as fast if not faster. Vettel is just having to put the lap in on a Saturday, and keep the car on track on Sunday. He's never showed unreliable when leading the pack.

BTW I still think Lewis is a more complete driver of course. But I don't see Vettel as a crashkid. Webber is more of a crasher in my books.

I blame Vettel for Turkey,

He had some bad starts as well, though its unclear if that was his fault or a car error.

Not too many though.

Singapore qualifying as well, he made a mistake and started and finished the entire race just behind Alonso.

I blame Vettel for Turkey.

So do I as HE was the driver attempting a pass and maybe it's just me but imho Webber gave Vettel plenty of room and it was not Webber who moved over causing the contact. It seem's to me Vettel has more composure behind the wheel this year knowing his car is the current class of the field once again.

It is great that F1 has another hard charger in the sense of what Lewis braught to F1.

Good point. I guess there is also a style in which a driver overtakes. For example, Kubica and Kobayashi are super agressive when they are getting past someone while on the other hand (as you said) Alonso and Heidfeld are more patient and wait for the perfect opportunity before making their move.

But they dont get past so much. Id rather watch Kobi or lewis, they do get past often.

yeah, that's a fair outlook as well!

You may like a driver for being aggressive, others may like a driver for being meticulous. It makes little difference when the results are there to show both approaches work. Also, its more a matter of the situation... sometimes it calls being aggressive, others being passive. Sometimes a mistake could be made either way. To say kobayashi or Lewis can't be patient is as narrow minded as saying Alonso or Heidfeld or Button can't be aggressive....

...And sorry Lewis fellas, some of you have got it straight, while others seem a bit confused.

Vettel has made MUCH fewer rash (and important/costly) mistakes than Lewis has. If his mistakes are going to be like Turkey or Spa, then good so. Much better than Lewis mistakes in the Canada pits or at Monza 2010!!

Lewis seems to be more the complete driver, but i think its all because Vettel simply appears childish, purposely? For sure he's no crash kid, and the way he shut out all the bad vibes in 2010 to seal the WDC was a robust statement.

Red Bull clearly had a faster car last year, but that car was also clearly more fragile. The title was far from certain.

How did he have such a fragile car? he had 2 DNF's due to mechanical failure Hamilton had 1 DNF and 1 out of the points finish due to mechanical failure so if the Red Bull was fragile the Mclaren was just as fragile.

If on the other hand you are referring to the fact his car broke when he crashed into people than yes his car was very fragile and that could be why he only just won the championship.

Don't get me wrong i actually like Vettel especially this season because he has matured so much but just as some Hamilton fans seriously over do their praise for him a decent number of Vettel fans are doing the same for him and are giving excuses for why he didn't run away with it last season, the simple fact why he didn't dominate last season was mistakes made by himself and his team it really had nothing to do with his car being "fragile".

I'm really hoping that Mclaren and Ferrari can step up their game so we can see what Vettel is really made of.

Vettel bookies' hot fave ahead of European season
Sun, 15 May, 2011

Reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel heads into F1's four-month European tour as red-hot favourite to secure his second championship come season's end, after a dominating display in the first four races of the year. Three wins and a second place has given him a commanding 34-point lead in the championship standings, and bookmakers have him as the firm favourite to still be holding the lead when the F1 circus leaves Brazil in late November.

Vettel has been favourite for the title ever since the end of last year, but never have his odds been as low as they are. Following his Turkish Grand Prix win last week, his odds have been shortened to just 4/11, having been at 9/4 prior to the season-opening Australian Grand Prix. He is 4/5 favourite to win in Spain next weekend.

McLaren's recovery from a disastrous pre-season has promoted Lewis Hamilton to second favourite at odds of 4/1, while Fernando Alonso has dropped from second favourite pre-season to a distant third favourite on 9/1 now, as Ferrari continue to struggle with the pace of their 150° Italia. His strong podium finish in Turkey has seen his odds shorten in the past few weeks though.

Unsurprisingly, the reigning world champions are also the favourites in the constructors' championship, with Red Bull now on odds of 2/9. McLaren are second favourites here too on 7/2, while odds are also being offered on Ferrari and Mercedes, even though it is Renault that lies fourth in the table.

Didn't want to start a new thread on this, but interesting article anyway..

Newey keen on keeping Webber

Adrian Newey would like Mark Webber to stay on at Red Bull in 2012.

Webber is on a rolling year-by-year contract with the team and recently said that his future at the team depends on how he feels when the negotiations come around. Team principal Christian Horner added: "At this stage, it's certainly too early to be talking about the future. There will be a private discussion that we have with Mark and not something to be conducted through the media. When the time's right we will sit down and discuss it."

Webber has struggled to match team-mate Sebastian Vettel's pace so far in 2011, with team driver manager Helmut Marko admitting recently that Vettel and Lewis Hamilton would be a "fantasy" pairing. But Newey waved aside the speculation and is keen on keeping Webber.

"I'm hoping Mark continues next season," he told the Guardian. "Apart from being a great person, his contribution has been significant. He's been a pillar of the team from the start. Seb is very perceptive in his feedback in some regards and Mark is very perceptive in other areas. We listen to both and it helps the car."

Newey also revealed that the new Pirelli tyres have been a key reason behind Webber's struggle to match his team-mate this season.

"So far the gap between Sebastian and Mark has been bigger than last year," Newey said. "It's certainly not a case that Mark has been driving any slower - that's for sure. Mark's just taken a bit longer to adapt to the Pirelli tyres but the gap is closing."

On his own future, Newey revealed that he intends to spend the rest of his career at Red Bull and even Ferrari could not lure him away.

"They're a great team and just like many drivers end up succumbing to Ferrari's romance, engineers aren't completely callous. But I won't be going to Ferrari. One reason is that my family [with four children] is in England. And being involved with Red Bull from the start has been hugely rewarding. I have no desire to work for anyone else in F1."
