A very interesting interview with CNN's Don Riddel here.

He's definitely in "negotiating" mode for the new/replacement Concorde. I think even he's bored with the old "we will form a breakaway if you don't give us what we want", so he's come up with the current variant, "we'll either take over or leave you with nothing after 2012". I guess that's more of a worry for CVC than Bernie as he only has a very small holding now.

Well in the current Concorde agreement no one involved in team management is allowed to mention talk of a break away. I think it was Fred C Dobbs who posted that info earlier. So would explain this slant of LDM. Im sure his intentions are exactly the same though.

Having control of the ownership is not changing affiliation with the FIA and the 2013 rules. For LDM to get his wish he would have to break away from the FIA not merely take over control of ownership.

'Teams open to breakaway series'

...Speaking to CNN television, [LDM] said the teams had three options.

"We renew with (commercial rights holders) CVC, or we theoretically -- as the basketball teams did in the US with great success -- we create our own company, like the NBA. Just to run the races, the TV rights and so (on)," he said.

"And third, to find a different partner.

"(Formula One supremo) Bernie Ecclestone did a very good job but he has already sold out three times, so he doesn't own the business any more. It is CVC that will sell. It will be the teams' decisions.

"At the end of 2012, the contract will expire, so theoretically CVC doesn't own anything. I think it is important to have alternatives. We will see. We have time to do it...."

I think his objective is to put the FOTA in charge of the governance of F1 by any means necessary. The least expense route would be with CVC continuing to own F1 but making the FIA redundant and replacing them with the FOTA. But with the F1 Magazine having proclaimed the sport "the world's fourth largest economy" with a "gross national product" of $3.8 trillion USD, I think Murdoch and Slim and News Corp and the pother potential investors are very keen on the possibility of plucking such a prime plum for a fraction of its true worth.

Déjà vu, this is the third time in as many years we've heard about a breakaway. LDM is becoming the boy who cried wolf; unless he is willing to take real action, he need to stop flapping his lips!
