Kinda glad I haven't been tracking this season. I can't believe I'm going to say this but I would much rather watch lewis win than vettel :P

Just rummaging through the driver's career stats. Only two drivers active in F1 today have taken pole more times than Vettel. One, of course, is Schumacher. The other is Alonso. If Vettel takes the upcoming pole in Spain, his number will equal Alonso's, despite having 97 fewer starts (and one fewer WDC). He also has more victories than any active driver in F1 save those same two and plus Hamilton. He is just two wins behind Hamilton so that could change this season.

I think Vettel matured a lot in the off-season. I'm sure he realises how much he could have dominated the 2010 statistics if not for three races spoilt by mechanical difficulties, a fourth by his own glittering stupidity and a fifth by an aerodynamic anomaly (or his own glittering stupidity, depending on your point of view). He looks to be quite keen on making the best of the opportunities he is presented this season.

I've said it before this season started, he is going to dominate and make some amazing records.

Dude, he pushed 2 drivers out of the track, doing more then one move when they tried to attack him... I call that dirty!

c'mon Vlad it was an awesome drive, if it stayed wet Lewis probably would have won.

A lot of people would call that aggressive driving, racing, and it's clearly what a driver skilled at overtaking will do. Which is the point folks are trying to make here, we've not seen that from Vettel. Ever.

To his credit, he's not had to.

He clearly forced Glock outside of the race track. I call that dirty. Have you watched Vettel's overtaking at Silverstone last year?

You know your becoming, and if i didnt have a second point to this post id PM it, a little fanboyish and grating on me a little, just a tad, but your drivers success, and likelihood of winning is giving you the option to be a ***** please dont, all i ever see from you now is in your face remarks concerning vettels wins, and downputs of others drivers. If your wondering why when top drivers become hated its usually their jumped-up fans that ruin a good atmosphere. Please act a little more modest with Vettels success.

Id like you to go and watch Vettels Silverstone race start for whats dirty, too far back? See China, theres a dirty move.

and id like you to go watch vettel smashing into sutil as he tried to overtake him in silverstone, if not then vettel on button in spa, or vettel on webber in turkey.

I have to agree, Vettel is not a clean overtaker. He might try to be but it always seems like he rushes it and just when he thinks he has got past he messes it up. You can see that in Turkey, Spa and Silverstone (on sutil). He gets a tow or alongside and then just seems to panic or overestimate his car's ability.

I have to agree that Vettel gets on my nerves because of his incompetent fans that know nothing about F1.

to be honest, there arent many clean overtakers in the sport today (or any specific era actually). Right now, the cleanest overtakers are Heidfeld and alonso. The rest arent all that clean, even the current 'overtaking king' (Kamui Kobayashi), he isn't clean at all. EDIT [So it doesn't make much difference being clean or not. Its all a matter of keeping your car in one piece and not causing some unnecessary dirt to the other guy.]

Last yr both Webber and Vettel looked rather sketchy on their overtaking. So i dont think it was a matter of just Vettel being sloppy... This yr's car looks a lot more generous, and even if we havent seen Vettel do much either bad or good, i cant really say he's been dirty (or dirtier than the rest).

A "clean" overtaker? That seems like such a crock filled meaningless word. Any pass that is achieved without incident and without being unnecessarily aggressive to the point of being warned or penalized by a steward is clean by the racing rules. There are overtakers that may make their passes seem effortless, there are passes that are born from frustration or an urgency to get by, and there are passes that are just one driver out willing another driver, so this is what I think is being discussed, (I guess dirty would be the opposite of clean) which is in fact not the case. If you make a habit of endangering the other driver, running them off the track or wind up making unnecessary contact because of a poor execution, then yeah, you could call that dirty, inept, unskilled whatever but I will still maintain that there is generally more dirt strewn by the drivers being passed than by the drivers doing the passing.

Surely a clean overtake just means there doesn't appear to be much risk of contact. Generally the overtaker isn't relying on the other driver to give way or take evasive action. The risks are better stacked that way.

As long as the pass is completed on track without forcing the other driver to take evasive action to avoid a dangerous collision...I'm good with it. Unless of course they are passing me in which case all passes are dangerous, dirty and should result in revoking their racing license. :hehe:

Err..yeah, maybe because they rarely overtake or are more used to being overtaken. :crying:

A clean overtake - Overtaking without contact. However, the overtaker can't do anything if the overtaken doesn't know when to give the position up (lost the corner but still pushes the issue), example being Schumacher on Petrov in Turkey. That was going to be a (by your definition) a clean overtake, though the 'overtakee' misbehaved. You can't blame the overtaker in that instance. So this 'clean overtake' theory cannot hold much water for a solid argument.
