Can Schumi possibly be considered the greatest ever after his comeback? I'm doubting it now.

I wouldn't of put him in the top 3/4 before, let alone now.He never did have a world champion as a team mate.

I agree.

Schuei misses traction control and teammates that are his lapdogs.

 this is so much like one of those aptitude tests.....
I think its VERY easy to figure the trend here

You are doubting it....now. Now? Are you saying that you once thought he was the greatest ever? I thought you were firmly in the Hate Red camp....were you once a fan of...dare I say it....the evil red cars?

Say it aint so.....

I say his legacy is ruined because he was known as a winner because he spent most of his time out front, never really had to battle too much in the midfield; now he is mired in the midfield he is struggling; being embarrassed by his team mate, which is my eyes means that he isn't as good a driver as his record suggests; he needed to have one of the best cars to win as much as he did!

There isnt a driver in the history of Formula One racing that has won in a car that is not one of the best, on the day, through the season, whatever. Nobody, has or will win in a crap car.

I can accept that ruined is a bad choice of words; but his reputation has certainly taken a big hit! As for drivers not being able to win unless in a top car; Sebastian Vettel in the Toro Rosso springs to mind, Damon Hill came close in a TWR Arrows, only mechanical failure cost him the win, Hill was well ahead of Jacques Villeneuve before losing sixth gear back in '97 (I believe). And those were genuine race victories on pace, so it is possible to win in a car that is well off the front of the grid!

The only people I've seen question the loftiness of MS's legacy are those who hated him when he was at the top, hated him when he retired and hate him still. Granted...there are many of those people. While I never liked his driving style, I can't say I hate him enough to use this as yet another reason to trash talk him. There are already plenty of legitimate reasons to trash talk Michael Schumacher.....I see no need to invent legacy, reputation or hair color reasons.

I was never a fan but I never hated him; I respected his ability as a driver but that respect for his driving ability is severely diminished over the past 18 months, so in my eyes his reputation is damaged because of his some times dangerous actions and performances in the past 18 months. The facts and figures will still show favourably in the history books but in people's minds, the once great Michael Schumacher will be remembered by many for a failed comeback being heavily beaten by his team mate!

The guy is 42 yrs old. What did you expect?

Age is always a factor in sports.

I liked the michael jordan comparison by one of the posters...Michael Jordan is considered as the best basketball player of all time. When he came out of retirement to play for the Wizards, the decline in his game was quite obvious...Still, in the minds of pretty much all NBA fans, he's still considered as the best player of all time. His stint w/ the Wizards did nothing to ruin his legacy...

Schumacher is not young anymore, he doesn't have the same stamina, grit, and driving awareness that he used to have.
