Not bad, in terms of race pace Alonso was matching the redbulls. As long as Massa doesn't keep messing up, he's fast, but really inconsistent Ferrari can start to look good for second place in the constructors.

And I don't think they're to far away from race wins.

Yeah you are basing a lot on one race, a race where Ferrari came 3rd. I thought Ferrari had higher standards than getting excited over 3rd
Hard to say if Ferrari were faster in the race than McLaren, Had Lewis not had that move on Webber on the first lap he would have probably been in that fight too.

Yeah you are basing a lot on one race, a race where Ferrari came 3rd. I thought Ferrari had higher standards than getting excited over 3rd

Why not get excited over third, when its a clear improvement. It's all relative isn't it?

Two things:


Ferrari have the pace theyve had since Australia, they got their first chance to use it yesterday. Despite a personal feeling that Alonso was DOTD, he was lucky in a lot of things that race going his way, a lot of things. They need to qualify higher to avoid getting caught in traffic/accidents. In that respect its good news and bad news, nothing changed from any other race this year apart from circumstance, they got the space to put their foot down and got their reward, but Alonso will most likely qualify 5th again and get caught up, whilst the leaders fly off. Again, need to qualify higher.


Secondly, Didnt hear anything on updates apart from Mercdedes and Mclaren, the former got some of theirs to Turkey and are now ahead of Ferrari on qualifying pace, but not race, the latter didnt manage to get theirs in time for Turkey, and are coming in Spain. If 2010 is anything to go by Mclarens updates will make the car worse not better, so if Ferrari can get some then they will pop ahead of Mclaren.


Its a lot of Ifs and buts if you ask me. Spain will tell us a lot more, all teams will get their updates on if they ddint for Turkey. Then the European season performance will be clear to see.

I don't think they have improved that much, Each race Ferrari have shown strong race pace. McLaren won I dont think many fans felt they were faster than RedBull. Until then theres no point getting excited until youre the hunted.

Ferrari were closer in qualifying, in China and Malaysia the qualifying gap was pretty big compared to the McLaren's.

Alonso was lucky with Hamilton's mistake, but he overtook Rosberg and Webber fairly. Webber got him back though, but not by too much.

I don't think the Ferrari's were really faster on race pace compared to the McLaren's before.

Button was faster than Massa in Australia. Alonso only caught up to Hamilton because Hamilton ruined his tyres in Malaysia (Button finished ahead of both Ferrari's anyway) and in China the Ferraris were some way back.

Like I said if Hamilton hadnt made that mistake im sure he would have been in the Webber Alonso fight, he was lapping similar times to those guys after his first tyre stint. By then it was all but too much of a task to catch those guys and 4th was his best possible position.

Ferrari brought a whole swag of updates to Turkey, these included:-
1) new front wing - not flexible, based on wing tested but not used in China
2) new rear wing
3) new diffuser
4) new floor / exhaust
All these will again be modified at Barcelona and again in Monaco when gearbox and gearbox mountings can be changed.

I'm sure Ferrari prefer to win

I think the excitement in the SF camp comes from the performance improvement the updates brought. There is some optimism that the team is on the right track and therefore that the further changes in these same parts will also bring significant improvements.

Red Bull's dramatic performance lead is being cut down. McLaren is still 2nd best, but only by a very small margin to Ferrari. Mercedes reaped the rewards of having mastered the flexi-front at Turkey - Well done Ross and co.

Just to put the relative performance of the teams into perspective. Red Bull got a significant boost from their KERS, which, according to the team worked all race for them.

Despite this, Fernando finished 10 seconds behind Sebastian - and it was Nando who was backing off at the end of the race because his last set of tyres were not fresh. From that 10 second lead you can take away over 4 seconds that Sebastian got from the total of his pit stops compared to Nandos - SF really need to improve their pit stops.

Lastly, Turkey is an almost perfect track for the Red Bulls in that it rewards df in a huge way. So, for Ferrari and McLaren to be swapping fastest laps with the RBs, and the RBs not able to pull away on an absolutely ideal track for them, I think bodes well for the rest of the season. Well, for the sake of competition, lets hope so anyway

Fernando has had some poor/unfortunate starts which compromised his races... now it was Lewis' turn.

It comes an go... at least Lewis and Alonso showed with a good clean race + a small mistake here or there the gap is bridgeable. Although nobody is yet able to beat Vettel unless he messes something up. That's what both Ferrari and mclaren have to work hard for.

I think Ferrari did their homework. The car's performance in Turkey was pretty damn good. I'd say they're back in the fight.

[What's Burning?]

One of the differences developing over race pace is that it seems that the McLarens struggle for grip and pace early on in the race, while they're much better in the later stages of the race. The Ferrari's in particular seem to be much better in the earlier part of the race, and fall off the pace the lighter the fuel load becomes, the closer they get to "qualifying" weight.

The Red Bulls on the other hand seem to be much more consistent throughout the race, and that has been the key difference so far.
