Remember when FA talked to his crew while in front of MW towards the end of the race? They spoke Italian saying something like they'll match every move MW makes re. tires, etc.
Anyway, Steve Matchett mentioned that there was an agreement that all communications would be in English so that reporters/the public understand.
Does anybody know of such an agreement? Is it binding or simply 'suggested'? Is there an actual FIA rule for this? Just curious...

I remember hearing about this a couple of seasons back; but I can't remember whether it was an agreement within FOTA or whether it was an FIA rule... but then again it is Ferrari and the Scuderia don't seem to follow the same rulebook as all the rest of the teams... just an observation before I get called a Ferrari hater...

It's also probably the only team whose official (or unofficial) language is not English

And I'm willing to bet that most of the top teams have at least one Italian/Spanish speaker to translate messages from Ferrari!

You don't think Merc speaks a lot of German? I know Brawn isn't german, but i'd think a lot of their engineers are - in addition to the drivers, obviously.

English is the first foreign language taught in school in Germany, so most everybody has a working knowledge of English, especially in an F1 team based in Brackley, UK (as opposed to Maranello, Italia  ).

Nah, not C given that I combined them in an excellent way to recreate the Ferrari mix as suggested by myownalias. So, A+

I don't see how they could realistically and fairly impose such a rule as this. It's just a coincidence that most, if not all of the paddock converse in English (generally) - it's just more convenient that way.
