Any news on Tex?

Alive and kicking :) . Sunday night I turned to the local news station for a weather update as we just got a crazy coldfront and all that was on the telly was the news of OBL's demise  . As bud pointed out the fight is still on and could possibly heat up and it is far from over but only time will tell. Talking to my new neighbors father today he said something very interesting in that Obama has pretty much sealed his re-election. Anywho even though the tyrant is gone (supposedly) the war against al-Qaeda still rages on world wide  .

Welcome back, Kotter, uh Gregg! :)

Man thos Navy DEVGRU operators are insane. I remember reading somewhere that the operators shoot more ammuntion in one year than the entire US Marine Corps does in the same.

I wonder why socom chose navy seals for a mission that would normally be done by Delta Force though.

SEALS are the epitome of ultimate stealth and force and if I read right the SEAL team that took Osama out is so covert and 'in the shade' they basically do not exist, they are the elite of the elite aka mere shadows.

It's because that type of operations is exactly the specialty of the Navy SEAL Team 6, that's what their special training is focused on.

Yep, the navy devgru which used to be seal team 6. While seals can come on to land and conduct direct action raids, they specialize in maritime environments like the somali pirate hostage situation a few months back.

Missions like this are normally reserved for Delta which are just as if not more elite than their seal counterparts. They too operate in the shadows and the army doesn't even acknowledge its existence publicly. Hell, Delta operators don't even wea the army uniform while on duty.

You guys need to read more about Delta, or SFOD-D its professional name. Its sole existence is to conduct counter terrsim DA raids like this one. Delta even cross trained and helped with the devgru program after seal team 6 sufferred reputation setbacks.

I'm just curious as to why they chose seals for a land mission. Did you see in the news that the helicopters they flew in on are like some spec ops stealth version of a blackhawk? Pretty crazyyyyyyy

Yup, the tail was modified with a disk and having 5-6 shorter rotors as opposed to 4 longer ones, which presumably muffles the whoop-whoop sound of the chopper.

That's pretty cool. I haven't been on a blackhawk yet but that whoop whoop sound they make is pretty pronounced, especially when they fly in groups. its pretty cool how they kept that blackhawk variant a secret, and I bet if it didn't have that mechanical problem it would still be a secret, but that's JSOC for you. Bunch of high speed spec ops guys...

I think because the idea was to ultimately leave there with a body and do the burial at sea, on the Carl Vinson which probably just made it for easier logistics.

Busy what?? Watching over the royal wedding??? Bahahahahahaha

I keed I keed. But in all seriousness the SAS are badass mofos. I mean practically every country's special forces units (including ours) is based after the British SAS.
