American motorsport is rubbish. All too vulgar. For Americans it has to be in-your-face before they watch it. Formula One is too complicated with technology, strategy and other outside influences for the Americans to give it too much attention.

American motorsports is not rubbish. I've been to Laguna Seca, Sears Point, 12hrs of Sebring watching Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, Ferrari, and Corvette battle each other. I don't follow Nascar in this country because its not my cup of tea, but at the same time I don't disrespect it because I don't understand it. Its like Rally Racing, either you like it or don't but don't talk crap because you dont' understand the culture behind it. Even thought ratings in the US for Nascar has been on the decline, the one thing it has going for it is advertising and marketing. I've followed F1 for decades but I can tell you this, there's more exciting races in Nascar then F1 , I even find myself falling asleep watching F1 sometimes (maybe getting up @ 4am to watch F1??) Attendance has increased every year at Indy for F1, even after the Michelin incident and you guess who fill the stands?? the same people that watches Nascar. Indy is to Nascar as Monza is to F1. As for Nascar lacking in technology and strategy, bro, do your homework.

I understand American motorsports and there is definately a divide across the Atlantic between what people in Europe and what people from North America want in motorsport. North America motorsport is more vulgar in the sense that is has to be more in your face with overtaking and crashes. I'm not saying that's necessarily bad; it's different that's all.

As I said on another thread, Formula One is about so much more that: It's about glitz, glamour, passion, technology, driving skill, politics, commerce and strategy. You have to take that into account when watching Formula One. At the end of the day if people don't like it they don't have to watch it.

Her PH.D. is in education she was a teacher and now she councel's student developement. She is pretty DD but she doesn't have anything to be flashing . She come's from a serious racing family as her brother's and dad have raced Formula Atlantic and other openwheel series. She has a brother or cousin who race's in the Porsche Cup. Also she love's F1 !

I am not here to defend Nascar, just don't like the sport but I will not disrespect the people that watches it because they are different from me. If you based your knowledge of American Motorsports on Nascar, then you don't know much about American Motorsports. I maybe be wrong, but didn't people cried about not enough overtaking/passing in F1?? and didn't F1 tried to create more overtaking/passing?? Who wants to watch a guy follow another guy for 70 laps?? this has nothing to do with being American, Irish, British, its about being a motorsports fan.

There is some strategy with pit stops and all the yellow flags bunching the cars up, but technology?
Not a single car is made for sale in America, and probably worldwide, that uses a carburetor still. Very little technology is required to make a tube frame car that weigh 3400 lb's. Very little technology is required to make a gearbox handle 30 shifts per race. Very little technology is required to make a spec body aerodynamically efficient. Very little technology is required to make a car handle through 4 identical left hand corners. Very little technology is required to make brakes that are only used sporadically in the pits and if there is an accident.
You may admire the closeness of the racing and the strategy but the technology is from a completely different era, the past. The speed has increased but only by honing ancient technology more finely.
